I am primarily an electric player but need to upgrade my accoustic. I would like to keep the purchase under $400.

It will be used primarily for accoustic rock and blues.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I swear by Martin guitars for high end acoustics...
But at that price range I am not so sure...
Fender is likely to have a good one at that price...
Also look at Taylor...
The best thing for you to do is go and play as many as you can possibly get your hands on.
Thats the best way to do it!
My acoustic is not a full size... its a little bit smaller...
makes it easy to handle but it still a great acoustic...
Click this & you can listen to the song "Here I come" to hear my martin...
I swear that guitar has magical powers like frosty's hat! LOL

I have contact everyday with Ovation acoustics. The necks have an electric feel as in v shape. The graphite top, walnut neck, clean sounding Adamas series are crisp and well built. As long as you do not mind the lyracore body they have a contour back that will help playing it with out having to play it like a lap steel.

Simon and Patrick is a great guitar in that price range (http://www.simonandpatrick.com/intro.htm). They all have solid tops, too.

Cort makes some very nice solid top acoustics in that price range -both spruce and cedar tops.

I believe that our friend is asking in this forum because he wants FENDER other wise there is a bunch of guitar forum out there...

So,,,,,,
Try the Fender DG 100...for $249.00...
A solid Englemann spruce top provides big, bold sound for miles.
The Fender DG100 is a big, warm-sounding acoustic with a solid Englemann spruce top, mahogany back and sides, dot position inlays, a tortoise shell pickguard, and abalone rosette.

No one who plays this guitar give it a bad comment...They only say that
is to much for such a low price....

I love my FENDER DG100...

I have a dg-8s. Beginner guitar. I had a sound hole in it but was very dissatisfied. For 2 mos. now I've had the Fishman Matrix and It has changed the whole nature. It has a whole lot of attitude. With a pre-amp built in and volum and tone controls that are hidden in soundhole. I love it and play in a church band and get lots of compliments. Check it out at Sweetwater.com for about$140.

I am a big Fender and Ibanez fan. But honestly I think Ibanez makes far better acoustics. Plenty of them are around the $400 range. Especially if you look on e-Bay. Try to see if you can snag an AEF37E-TCS. VERY nice sounding guitar, very solid and the electronics on it work great. I bet you can get 1 for under $400 on e-Bay. Slap a set of Elixir on it and you are good to go :D

I've always liked Ovations and plan to get another one. This time a cutaway with a built in pickup. Would like to try one of their solid body electrics too but have never seen them except online.

Guild would kind of be the next step up.

the most expensive acoustic by Fender that i've found is the FENDER BUDDY MILLER and costs around 1000 Euros (check thomann.de).

Of course there's also the Malibu and the Kingman which each of them cost about 450 Euros!
