hello fellow fender enthusiasts,
this is my first post on this site ... it looks like this is the place to be !
i have this old fender acoustic 12 string guitar and i am wondering if anyone has info on the model, style, age etc..
the guitar was left in my possession when the owner went to prison ... i never heard back from him or his wife and now it is mine (?)
i have had this hanging around in the studio for over 20 years ... not very playable as the action is pretty high but a nice conversation peice ...
any assistance from the knowlegeable would be greatly appreciated
thanks
mark

is there a way to directly post a picture to the forum page ?

ps... princeton reverb 2 (1982 riviera tube amp ... sweet tone monster) and the tremolux (1961 .. 29th off the line, authentic 6g9 survivor, still working ... last one sold on ebay for $15K) ... not for sale unless reasonable offers are made

How to post pics - Nutter's quick start guide

On the guitar, I'd like to get some more info:
There must be a serial/model number/other markings (like "Made in ...") somewhere.
Is that a bolt-on or a dovetail joint neck?
More pics, please - from all sides, details etc; the more the merrier...

I'd like to say "Harmony made", but at this point that's just a vague hunch, and maybe totally wrong...

And: I'm definitely not choosing sides on the rightful owner part via internet - face to face the choice between you and your jailbird friend might be easier...

hi there,
as far as id marks ... no numbers or anything else on the body or inside
the neck is dovetailed into the body, the wood appears to be mahogany back, sides and neck ... top looks to be solid wood but not mahogany
someone did a bad job refinishing the instrument and probly removed any id tags and such ... there is a place on the rearside of the neck that shows a clamp mark from a repair to the fretboard
the headstock overlay is 3 ply tortoise shell pickguard material with the fender logo cut into it

so does anyone have an idea of age on this 12 stringer ?

Late 1960ish, if it's genuinely Harmony made Fender branded. On that one pic, I won't take sides as for authenticity, either.
Pics worth checking here: Harmony 12 string

hello,
thanks for the link ... i does show a comparable instrument although mine is a bit different .. the details on mine include a more intricate tailpeice design and a squared off bridge plate as well as a single string bridge that is unadjustable (altho you can stick another shim under the plastic brige if needed, there is one in there now)
i did look over the instrument carefully and was not able to find any numbers or id badge anywhere ...
i beleive this to be an authentic vintage (?) peice but i am sure the value is minimal due to the poor refinishing and condition
thanks for the info

You're welcome.
On the price range, these usually are no goldmines even in mint condition.
On the stamps, marks & such, next time you have the strings off, try peeping inside the body, mirror&flashlight style. Occasionally, some models have a stamp there, and no refinisher I've ever seen sands the insides.

This is a refinished Fender F series from 1970. It originally was a Natural High Gloss finish. The model number is F1070-12. The catalogue order number would have been 94-4400 and priced new at $169.95 in March 1970 rising to $196.95 in April 1970 The top is a close grained spruce with Mahogany back and sides. Rosewood fingerboard. The tail piece looks correct but the bridge would have been a moustache style, so yours has either been 'squared off' or replaced. Laminated cherry finished plastic pickguard. 8 pearl dot position markers. The case to go with the guitar would have the order number 91-9442 and cost $19.50
