OK, hopefully someone here can clarify things for me on this. I just purchased a B&C P-Bass Special from a guy on CL. After inspection of the bass, it is 100% original aside from the strings. Now here is where I am confused. My understanding is that the B&C series ran a short while between 2007-2008. Yet, when I looked at the serial number on the back of the headstock, it begins with IC03, which would indicate Indonesian built, Cort plant, in the year...2003? I checked to make sure the serial hadn't been scratched or altered (such as changing an 8 to a 3), and there is no tampering, it is a 3 alright.

So, what gives? Anyone have some info to share?

OK, so I finally found a source that shows the B&C was manufactured between 2004-2010. If mine shows a mfg. date of 2003, it must be a pretty early one I guess. With that said, i noticed mine has a 13 hole pickguard, and most of the advertising materials show the standard Squier 14 hole guard. This is turning out to be an interesting bass to say the least. I haven't cleaned it up just yet, nor set it up, but even so, it plays pretty darn good. Can't wait to see how much better once it's been serviced!

So I've cleaned up the bass and set it up. Wow, what great action this bass has, low as a snail's belly. Neck is dead straight (after adjustment), and the bass itself is quite light, save for a bit of neck dive, which switching out tuners to some hipshot ultralites should take care of that. I am seriously thinking this might become my #1 bass. I am super satisfied with this CL purchase. All for a measly $100. I'll post pictures this coming weekend.

Just noticed I never posted a photo of the bass. Here it is.

That's very nice, Lee! Did you put on the heavy 'Hi-Mass' bridge and chrome pick guard? Or did the previous owner do that?

Very Nice! A funny story.. I work for a guitar store, and we're a Fender/Squier dealer... back in '02 I had a black Affinity P-Bass that I bought out of a starter pack. I put a mirror pickguard on it and painted the headstock black. When a Fender rep came through I had the bass with me doing a restring on it and showed it to him. I asked if there was any way I could order a white or silver Fender or Squier headstock logo for it, to match up with the mirrored pickguard. He said no, because Fender was really coming down on bootleggers, and the only way to get a headstock logo was to send in photos of the guitar with serial number etc, and they might send you an exact replacement for the original. So I ended up ordering a decal sheet, which had a larger silver Fender logo that i cut down etc... Low and behold a year later, Squier releases a black and chrome P-Bass lol. Coincidence? Who knows lol.....

Hey there linnin!

Well, the pickguard was stock for that model, so that came from the factory. As far as the bridge, yes, that was an addition I installed. The only other mod I made was the tuners. I installed some hipshot ultralites to cure some serious neck-dive that was going on with the stock tuners (which I don't care for much anyway).

Well it looks Fabulous! Those new Fender Hi-Mass bridges are pretty BadAss if you ask me. Perfect addition. Great choice!

That's the bridge they were using on the Fender Blacktop Precisions a few years ago. I like it a lot, improved sustain and solidified tone. Plus, they are very reasonably priced, I think I paid about $36 for it new. I also like that the string end fits inside the bridge so it has a very clean appearance.

Those are nice 5 screw top load bridges. They are made by Gotoh LTD clearly based on the Gotoh 201 bass bridge with two refinements which are recessed intonation screw holes instead of exposed screw heads and a textured baseplate. Otherwise it is identical to a Gotoh 201. The 201 itself is a very good design, but the ones they made for Fender like yours which are not badged Gotoh are actually more refined. As of now the OEM Fender ones are actually cheaper!

I've been very happy with mine thus far and wouldn't hesitate to use this type of bridge on another project in the future. A nice little step up from the stock units.
