Hello, first post in this part of this forum. While out of town tending to some family business, I ran across a Craigslist ad I couldn't resist. It turned out to be a music store in Tucson, it was for a brand-new Squier P-bass Special with P-J pickups. It was marked $199.00, and if you mention the ad they'd take 20% off. Holy crap, I did a little math and within 45 minutes it was mine! The backstory is that I've played bass for years but sold off all my basses (I had a '76 Fender P, a 1998 Roscoe Beck 5-string and a Dingwall 5-string) when I freaked out the last time. Every 10 years or so I freak out and quit music to do something else. The last time was 8 years ago and I took up repairing antique clocks. Anyway, I've been jonesing for another bass but I couldn't see dropping another $1,500 or whatever for my dream machine - so the Squier looked great & here I am. Just got done clipping the factory strings, put on a set of Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats, tweaked the neck relief a bit and did the intonation. Now I'm gonna wait a couple days and re-check everything. Dang, I think I'm gonna like this bass!

Yeah, the Squier is turning out to be great. This is my first-ever Squier, by the way. For a while I had my heart set on the American Deluxe Precision Bass, with active electronics. But the price tag scared me away. When I saw this one on Craigslist I had to check it out. It sounds great and plays great! It's working out just fine for me...
So far the only gripe I'm having is the neck bow adjustment. My bass didn't come with an allen wrench so I had to figure out what size works for the neck bow, behind the nut. The closest I found was 4-millimeter (metric, of course), but the fit is a little sloppy so I'm not positive that it's the right size...but it works.

Actually, 4mm allen wrench size is right on the money. If the fit is a little sloppy, my guess would be a previous owner tried using a size that was "close" but not an exact fit. If you want to tighen up that fitment, you can get a replacement truss nut here (third column, second row}.

I have not bought that exact model but about a year and half ago I bought two Squier Vintage Modified basses and both had bridge and truss Allen keys included in the box. I was impressed with the value. Of course it isn't a Fender but beats anything else in the price range. Kills the Ibanez.
