Hello!

This is my first post on this forum.

I recently bought a squier affinity strat and a squier affinity p-bass and I am really satisfied with both of them.

For the bass, I bought the "stop dreaming, start playing" package with the Rumble 15 amp, and even though it works perfectly, when I crank up the tone knob just above 1/4th, it starts producing a buzz, which is not like the normal guitar buzz, it is unaffected by me touching the strings or playing. It just stays there, but it is effected by the volume of the amp.

What could be the cause of this? And is it possible to resolve it without taking it back?

Thank you in advance!

2 Important questions. 1. Does the amp still buzz without the bass plugged into it? 2. Does the amp buzz with the bass plugged in but the volume on the bass turned all the way down?

First of all, thanks a lot for taking the time to answer to me.

The answer to the questions is the following:

1. No, only the usual amp noise when the volume is turned above 3/4

2.No.

As much as I think you don't want to hear this, it sounds like there could be an electrical issue with the tone knob. Likely wiring that's bad/not making good contact/etc. These are usually not expensive repairs and if you just bought the bass, I would think that there is some warranty covering the repair.

I just bought the bass but it really is a big thing to take it back for me and where i live... any other possible causes/resolves?

Yes, but it's going to be on your own dime. The circuits inside a bass are very simple, but you still need to find a knowledgeable technician to troubleshoot the issue, and then make the repair. One step at a time. Good Luck!

I am so embarrassed actually... I don't think any of you can imagine what it was...

I found out yesterday, basically, my 12 years old brother did, when he plugged the bass to my Amplitude rig, using another cable....

I would have never imagined it was just the crappy Fender cable they supply with the package...

The noise is coming from the instrument probably. Have you tried it in a completely different building? Sometimes electrical wiring in a home or commercial building will not be to spec and can cause issues. Or there can be interference generated from nearby. If it does it everywhere possibly something as simple as a bad ground at the bridge or broken solder joint. Needs diagnosing and doing that remotely is fraught with pitfalls.
