Nice to see that Squier is releasing a 70s Precision!! Curious as to why the headstock logo isn't "70's styled" tho....

One reason I can think of is that there was not a Squier brand headstock decal logo during the 1970's so they can't reproduce one.

Well, sorry for the smartypants answer. LOL.

If you are talking about the Squier Classic Vibe '70s Precision Bass with the Jazz neck on it, that decision was possibly because the smaller model name script was used on most (but not all) of the Jazz Basses with the block inlays in the 70's. If they were shooting for a certain year's Jazz neck they would have used the decal styling of that year. Jazz Bass decals frequent did not conform to the decals used on other instruments. For example a Jazz Bass never had a spaghetti logo even when the rest of the line did. Since the neck on this instrument is based on a Jazz Bass neck they probably went with the appropriate design for the year that Jazz based neck is supposed to mimic cosmetically. (No P-Bass ever had block inlays in the 70's.)

Ah... see I didn't know much about the Squier end of things but knew the 70s Fender P's never had blocks... I have to agree with everyone else on these boards tho, you are an endless well of knowledge and I look forward to learning more from you!

True but there are exceptions.

Only a very few Ps were sold with those "tuxedo"-styled Jazz Bass necks. Carl Radle played a '73 P with a '66 J neck during his early days with Eric Clapton. An interesting clue is the "Bass" scripted headstock decal which was very common on the Coronado basses from that era.

It is true that if you take a Jazz neck and put it on a P-Bass you would have block inlays, but you would also no longer have a P-Bass. What you have is a Jazz neck on a P-Bass body. It would not say PRECISION BASS on the headstock so it isn't a P-Bass. I am unaware of any legitimate P-Basses being sold in the 1970's with block inlays. Could have happened but so far as I know the entire time I was selling new P-Basses in the 1970's at a Fender dealer I never ever saw one from the factory with block inlays and so far as I know that was not an upgrade option either.

A lot of players swapped necks between Jazz basses and Precision basses back in the 70's and 60's. That's what Carl Radle did as well as Duck Dunn.

I did the same thing. It was fun to try out different necks and the results were surprising. Sometimes very good.

Fender did not sell Precision basses with block inlays back then.

I saw Carl Radle back up Eric Clapton in 1974 and his bass neck had no logo on it at all.
I think it was a block inlay neck.
