Hi Autio21. I have not played this particular model. I have played the non-signature 34" Squier Vintage Modified Jaguars. I do like the P/J's with the standard single coil Jazz pickup better than the Jaguar with the humbucking double stacked Jazz pickup. It seems to have more tonal range to me.

These instruments are really very playable and sound fantastic. I'm not partial to block inlays but that is just a personal preference. Other than the unique finish and block inlays the Sanders model isn't all that different from the non-Artist Series ones. If you are enamored with the look and it is worth the extra hundred bucks to you for the extra eye candy, I think you'll like it.

The basic 34" Jaguar VM series basses without question destroy the Ibanez bass in the same price class. When they were first introduced I sought out several to try out and I became very excited about them and still recommend them as possibly the biggest value around on a good playing and versatile bass. I am not partial to intro caliber active basses as a rule, but this one I like. It sounds more natural and less fake in the low end.

There were very few negatives on the models I evaluated. The pickguards were very thin, but the other hardware seemed serviceable enough. The body woods are different based on the color. The body woods used being basswood, poplar or agathis depending on color. I prefer the basswood bodies and that limits color selection for me personally. The Sanders model is basswood, which I think has better tonal potential. There is a bit of neckdive but nothing a suede backed strap won't cure 100%. The jack is on the lower bout such as with a first generation P-Bass or Telecaster guitar. I suggest using an angled plug with jacks in that location and then run the cable back through the strap next to the end pin and then to the amp. Otherwise you can unplug yourself too easily by just stepping on the cable. That's a very minor negative since lots of instruments are like that.

Still I would buy one and play it stock as it would make a good gigging, practice, backup bass. I have heard some people say they don't like the bridge but it is every bit as OK as a 63 Fender bass bridge since it is the same design. I'm not real picky about bridges as long as they are stable and intonate well. I would feel comfortable buying one of these, but I would not upgrade anything that wasn't actually problematic or broken. To me one of these "is what it is" and I'm not throwing more dollars at it. Unlike some intro level basses it really is up to snuff without any upgrades. I could see years down the road the bridge could become unstable or the tuners get looser maybe, but I would worry about those things only if and when it became a problem.

The 34" Squier VM Jaguar basses are an amazing value compared to anything else in the price class. If you only have $200 and want a brand new bass, it is absolutely the best choice out there. They sound much better than the Affinity ones that are only $20 less. The extra $100 for the block inlays and custom finish with painted headstock on the Sanders model seems a reasonable upcharge to me. For the money the basic Squier VM 34" Jaguar Bass is the best choice out there. The Vintage Modified Squiers are always touted as super amazing for the money and the Jaguar is no different. If you like the P/J arrangement it is a great choice. Like I said, I like the P/J with the original Jazz single coil better than the one with the humbucking Jazz pickup.
