Hey, so I'm new here. I don't currently own any fender/squier products, but would like to. Left handed player, so my options are limited. I was looking at the VM 70's bass or maybe the regular VM bass. Does anyone who plays heavy music have any experience with these? How do they handle drop tuning?

I have no experience with these drop tuning them. String selection can make a difference as you'll need a higher tension string or they'll get floppy when drop tuned. Many players who drop tune use a 35" scale instrument instead of a 34" as they work better drop tuned.

I don't have any experience with dropped tuning on the Squier VM '70s, but I do remember watching a video review on Youtube where the reviewer did an on the fly dropping of the E string. One of my favorite metal/hard rock bands of the 1970s was Grand Funk Railroad, and if you notice on the cover of their self-titled "Red" album, bassist Mel Schacher is playing a '70s era Fender Jazz, the bass on which this Squier was patterned for.

I recently purchased a used VM '70s Jazz, the earlier one, with the satin neck and "duncan Designed pickups, and I am absolutely loving it. It has a lot of punch to it. I play through a 30 watt Acoustic and a 200 watt Ampeg combo, usually with only a SansAmp Bass DI between guitar and amp.
