I recently got a Bass Vi and I'd like to know if there are any setup specs available? I.E. string height at 12th fret, etc.

I don't know of any specs but this is how I did mine. The neck socket isn't flush like a Strat or Tele. I did this on my VM Jag I got in 2012. I put about .005 relief at the 8th fret. almost straight. It put the strings right on the neck. then I raised the saddles enough to make the strings clear the bridge edge not to touch and cut out and matched the saddles to the fretboard radius. Then I raised the adjustment screws on the entire bridge. This got the action right where I wanted, but put enough tension on the strings to kill any rattle. the final step was to put clear fingernail polish on the saddle height screws. The neck is almost straight, conventional thinking won't work on this beast, If that wouldn't have worked I would have shimmed the neck pocket. The trick is to keep the action low but have the bridge high enough to not rattle. I found this out trying to keep my 2012 Jaguar quiet and be able to use the trem. The main thing is to keep tension on the break angle of the bridge

Your neck have not enough relief with .005 " Your action might be too hight if you want no strings buzz .

The only way to have a good set up is to follow the bass guitar set up .
If you can't do it , see a qualified luthier

All specs are on the SUPPORT
All basses need same set-up if same neck radius

Truss rod adjustment at 8 th frets with capo on first fret

Neck Radius
7.25"
9.5" to 12"
15" to 17" Relief
.014" (0.35 mm)
.012" (0.3 mm)
.010" (0.25 mm)

Take time to read and understand carefully the set up.

Guitar bass setup is easy to learn and to go with basic tools . Takes more time the first time.

Mine doesn't rattle at all. I was not happy with how it played with the "stock" specs, what i did worked with mine, it may not work on another though. the neck pocket on mine was not straight like a strat or tele , so I was able to run the neck almost straight. My complaint was the action was too high and the trem didn't stay in tune, my setup put more tension on the bridge, now the action is very low and the trem is fantastic. Each guitar is different, I might not work on another. I found this out when i got my VM Jaguar 2 years ago and it works great :D

What you call "stock " set up was not the Fender set up . It is the set up when you receive the Bass with neck move because wheather and shipping many many months ago ..... from the day the bass live the Fender building plant .

I don't understand how you can say neck pocket is not straight . This is no sense to me . Or you don't use the right words .

Any picture ?

You say each guitar is different , it is not my opinion . You may like action lower or higher but you can do the same set up on any guitar or bass .

Your inexperience explain your statements .. But we all started that way. Enjoy your bass.

the neck pocket is slanted toward the rear of the guitar, like the classic player jazzmaster and jaguar. I've set guitars up for 20 years this wasn't like any neck adjustment I have done. Don't have pics. My setup on paper sounds like it wont work, but on this guitar it worked. I wanted my action lower than specs, so I played around with it, the slanted to the rear neck socket helps it from fretting out with very little relief. It works and I've been gigging on it. It worked, shouldn't even said anything, due to this debate

I think I undestand you need to shim neck pocket to have a good neck set up

I often use piece of thin brass sheet avalaible on Hobby shop to shim neck pocket.

Avalaible in many thinckness .010 " .005 ".......

My Bass VI is working just fine, no need for shims,or anything else,I am sorry I even posted to this. The comment of my inexperience to me was insulting. When I started trying to make my guitars play better and stay in tune was trial and error, I couldn't afford a Luthier, so I got a guitar set up book and tried to copy what they said. 2 of my 19 Fender products are setup to my playing and would be considered "Wrong" or unplayable.

I do not insult you if I write you lack experience. This is not a fault.

To adjust a lot of bass and guitar myself is what I understand from reading your first question.

I could be wrong too.

We can not know everything.
