Hello friends, my name is Federico, i am from Buenos Aires Argentina.
Two days ago, I bought my first bass.
It is a Precision Bass Squier California Series surf green (used condition).
The strange thing is its serial number.
Not printed on wood with a decal of water.
In this case, it is a common sticker. And their number is also strange. It starts with 00 and has no lyrics.
Someone can give me some information about my bass?

Hi Federico!

That sticker with the numbers on it is very suspicious. I'm no expert but I've never seen a Fender or Squier like that before as the serial number has been on a decal. I'd send an email to Fender's Consumer Relations at consumerrelations@fender.com and ask for "all information" include a link to this thread so they can look at your photos. Be patient while waiting for a response.

Good Luck!

I sent an email to Fender's Consumer Relations.

It is difficult for us to tell what bass you have, Federico.
I have never seen a Squier bass with a serial number on a sticker or decal.
There are many different countries making Squier basses and yours may or may not be legitimate.
We are best knowing the US instruments and when someone tries to fake one of them.

Good luck with your bass.

This is probably legitimate Squier. The California Series Squier instruments have never been sold in the USA by Squier so far as I know. When questions about them come up they are usually from Asia and the subcontinent or South America.

One post on another forum credits Super Music Co. Ltd., a Shanghai-based manufacturer, as the source for some of the California Series Squier models. They never appeared on the Squier website because they are an economy model that seems to only be for sale in emerging markets.

I've seen a few photos of Strats from this series with typical serialization applied on the headstock reverse. There is also a "Squier by Fender" deal on the headstock reverse over the serial on some California Series Stratocasters from Super Music Co. Ltd while on others just a decal that says "Crafted in China" over the serial which looks to be silk screened. They all have the same "California Series" decal on the front of the headstock peg area.

This serial sticker here on your P/J is a tad unusual but by itself doesn't mean it is fake Squier. FMIC uses serial stickers on the Ashbory bass also. So FMIC does use stickers in some cases and obviously they did here also.

Another thing that leads me to think it is legit is the obvious discolored circle on the pickguard where a marketing sticker was applied. That is very typical for FMIC marketing and was used on the Squier California Series instruments as I've seen photos of them with the round stickers.

The general consensus about the Squier California Series is that the electronics and hardware are 3rd rate but decent basswood bodies and playable necks make them desirable in markets where a real Fender, even a Mexican one, cost a multiple of what they cost in the USA. Lots of people who have them upgrade parts on them like pickups, tuners and bridges as they can.
