I was just surfing this evening and came across two EXTREMELY interesting things. See if you are excited too.

First off, while looking at the Classic Vibe Precision Bass on the Fender site, all of a sudden the original Sonic Blue version is listed alongside the current Fiesta Red edition (though the Sonic Blue's price is set at $0). I hope this is something to possibly get excited about, I would love to see the SB version return.

Secondly, I went to see if the SB was listed at Musician's Friend, and I came across this shocker:

A gold edition? What gives? Where did this come from and why hadn't I heard anything about it? It says you can pre-order this bass. Anyone hear anything?

By the way, I just checked and there is a black CV Jazz bass for pre-order as well. Very cool.

I like the new colors for the CV basses but I am not impressed at the lowered quality of the Classic Vibe Jazz that I saw over the weekend.
It appears that Fender or their Chinese or Indonesian factory has re-thought the components of the CV basses and reduced the quality of the tuners and bridge used to make these basses. They are much cheaper looking than those used on the first generation CV basses.

I am just glad that I bought mine when I did.

The Affinity Jazz Bass V needs an overhaul - i dislike the 5-in-line tuners!

I agree with you chromeface. I've always thought the 4 opposing 1 was a better system and allowed the use of higher quality tuning machines.
