My newly acquired 1989 Squier Bass. She's in awesome shape and plays great! Don't know what model though? If anyone knows anything about it, a heads-up would be great!

Hey Isteen, I won't quote you since the photo is so big. Very nice, especially like the finish on that Jazz bass, the ones without pickguards look very classy IMO. My band of Gypsies strat is like that. 8)

Here's my Squier Vintage Modified Fretless "Jaco" style bass. I found I didn't prefer the au natural look. So I added some stuff.

I got this one in pieces.

The body and neck are both kind of remarkable... the neck is an 'A' neck I got from a guy I'd spoken with on a bass players' web site. Got it for a song, basically; it has a minor ding in the neck, around 7th fret on the bass side. It's a Squier neck, made in Indonesia, and is among the sweetest necks I've played in recent history. Not 'too fast', slim like a Jazz at the nut. Feels great, action and frets are fine.

The body appears to be Mahogany, so I'm not altogether sure it's a Squier but it fits the neck- there's gappage at the butt of the neck to the body joint, but the holes lined up perfectly. Intonation is 'right in the slot'. I know it's Mahogany (I think it is) because at one point I sanded away some of the inside of the lower bout to make some hand-room for those forays up the fretboard, and there is was. The bass is substantial, weight-wise.

I don't know what the p'ups are, but I believe I was told they're an old Duncan split-coil set. On a video of our band I was playing this one, and the camera was out front- we had a large FOH jig, and I ran into a DI from the stage. The sound was only the bass out front, and it was a really nice, warm, almost-wooly sound. Really dug it- it has character. Currently strung with Thomastik Jazz-Flats.

When I am correct, it is called a HM bass (Heavy Metal) I have a 5 string version of such a bass. Pictures of a similar one:

Great thread. Thanks for the photos, excellent.
Here is Blackie, the Squire Affinity series p-bass in my signature. It now belongs to my drummer, he didn't have a bass guitar, I modified this one for him. New mighty mite rosewood neck, new single ply pickguard, new Dimarzio rails, new chrome hardware, new electronics. The mighty mite neck is like a baseball bat. Very comfortable and makes a growl even when not amplified:

ps the pick-ups in this photo are vintage p-bass Fenders that are now waiting for a bass lol.

I didn't take any photos of my first one years ago (A 2003 PJ in Candy Apple Red).

But I just picked up a new Affinity Jazz to play with... Loving it so far...
Image

I picked it up as a modding platform, I LOVE the Affinity neck, and just the ergonomics of this bass, it fits me well... But it doesn't have the electric or aesthetic specs I am going for, so the modding begins...

Step 1 is done. Swap out boring white pick guard with aftermarket tort guard.
Image
Step 2 is done. Pick up a set of Squier Duncan Designed Jazz pickups, and shield the snot out of them.
Image
Step 3 is in inventory, waiting to be applied. Use conductive coating paint to shield pickup and control cavities making the conductive coating make contact with things like the control cover etc, but steering clear of anywhere ground is NOT supposed to be...
Step 4 is to swap out the OEM bridge with a Classic Vibe 60s High Mass bridge. I have it, just need to install it.
Step 5 is to replace the original J Bass logo with one that spells out Jazz Bass. Really what were they thinking truncating the name?

Will post up detail photos once it's done...
