OK, here's the deal. I just got the Bass VI today and when I opened it up it was completely unplayable! The neck was fine at least, but the pick ups were way too high and the action slightly too low. The strings were right against the pick ups. Not friggin' good!

We called AMS up to let them know that they are probably sending these from the factory like this. I think they are doing a rush job over there because of demand, perhaps. I had absolutely no problem with the Jazz Bass or Telecaster I got from them. I could send it back, but there is a back order on these and I don't want to wait and also have the possibility of have the same problem.

So now I'm going to have to take it to a local music shop and get it set up (I don't want to mess with it, to be on the safe side) and if it doesn't work, then I'll send it back since I have a 45 day guarantee with AMS.

Well, this is the first negative experience I've had with any Squier product and I'm letting everyone know about this who might have ordered one online that this could happen to them. Get your crap together Fender! This wasn't AMS' fault because it was shipped in the factory box like this from the factory, itself. Like I said before, no issues with any previous product from Squier, but I suppose that is a risk sometimes.

Another update. The more I thought about it, why should I have to pay $40-$50 to have a guitar fixed that should be playable out of the box? :x Sorry, it's going back, even though I might have to wait a long time for another one. If the next one has the same problem then I'll get my money back and expect me not to say too many nice things on the forum about it. At least now I'll know how good AMS' customer service really is going to be. Fender was also contacted so I'm curious to see what they have to say.

I really examined it and I think the neck might not be on there correctly. It seems like it is up to high in the back, or at least the end by the bridge is really low. Something is definitely now right with it. I can't even tune the damned thing. Even looking at the bridge, even raising it probably won't help. The pickups also look like they should be the right height, too.

I hope this isn't a consistent problem with these and no one else has this problem. We've been waiting long enough for these to come out. I will say this is the first time I ever had a problem with a Squier. The last two were spot on, so I'm going to give it one more chance.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. My local independent shop includes a great setup...so far...and the prices match the internet. Be sure to check a shop in your area before ordering another.

OK, I got in touch with AMS and it's now sent back for an exchange. I'll have to wait, but hopefully the next one won't be a lemon. If it is, then I'll just get a refund.

I've read things in other sites, especially The Gear Page, where they seem to have more answers. Remember, this is hearsay.

It seems part of the long delay was because Fender missed a delivery to its dealers -- They rejected a large batch for quality issues. One person asked if he should be optimistic because Fender caught the bad batch or should he be wary of quality problems. I myself wondered if the factory (supposedly Cort in Indonesia) would rush to meet demand and quality would drop.

Regarding the setup -- Others are finding that the low E string flops and buzzes. The quick fix is to turn the bridge 180 degrees and, if necessary, shim the neck. Sometimes bigger strings will fix the low E problem.

This whole thing is starting to remind me of the Squier Elite -- Great, low-cost reissue of a unique Fender design, but demand died because of quality issues.

Sadly, all of the strings were flat against the pickups completely loose and I couldn't even tune them up. It also kind of looked like the neck was angled slightly higher by the body, or at least the back of the body by the bridge was real low. The action on the bridge itself seemed to be set normally.

I refuse to have to pay for serious repairs to a brand new instrument the is unplayable. Who put this thing together, or whoever was suppose to set it up, didn't give a $@!&. The only reason I'm not calling off the whole brand is because I never had any problems previously with the other instruments. I'll give them one more chance with it.

We did email Fender about it, but have yet to hear back, if we do. I guess we'll see if this straightens out. I just wanted to let everyone else know who were also waited, just in case.

By the way, it did have a nice feel to it, sans the fact it was unplayable. It's a total bummer, because I was waiting a long time for it.

I'm trying to stay optimistic . . . against all odds.
Just two weeks to go -- 14-Jan-2014.

Yeah, will do. Apparently the next time it should be in stock is the first of February. Hopefully, this will be a one-off issue for all around.

Another update: Problem solved. I'm getting a refund and will probably wind up getting a Schecter Ultra VI. It's $300 more, but I think it will be worth it. I've been looking into what they have to offer and I like some of the options they have. Jumping ship on Fender? Perhaps, but I have my reasons to so now. Good luck with your purchases. Hopefully you won't have to deal with the same issues I have.

Flipping the bridge and using a .102 - .028 string set mostly did the trick on mine, but it's still not perfect. Maybe a pro setup would do the trick, but I agree with the OP in that I shouldn't have to pay extra to have a brand-new instrument working properly. Nor should I have to modify it.

The problem I'm facing now is that if I don't play it for a few days, I have to adjust the neck relief to get my action down to a playable (for me) height. A couple of cranks of the truss does it. Still, WTF?

I need the thing now, as we have a few songs in the set that rely on it, so I can't send it back to Fender as a warranty item and then wait for a new one. I'm also past the return time at Guitar Center. So I guess I get screwed for being a "pioneer." (I ordered mine way back in August, got it the last weekend of September). Awesome.

Sorry you have issue with yours, too. I solved my problem by returning it and getting a Schecter Ultra VI from Amazon.com. It should be here in the next day or so. They had 10 of them left that they were selling for around $475 new, which is $125 less than normally priced and only $125 more than the Squier. I liked what I've heard about it and I also bought a Schecter Diamond-J Bass and I think it's the best bass I've played in 20 years, so I'm confident of it's quality. It also has a Gibson type bridge and no whammy bar, so at least it should have stability where that's concerned. I did contact Fender about the whole fiasco, so maybe they'd paid attention and made sure that the quality control department doesn't have their head up their asses. I know it's an inexpensive instrument, but it should at least be able to be played and not have a screwed up neck. Especially if Fender is going to put their name on it.
