Fender has just released various incarnations of their Dimension Basses ranging from the Modern Player series to the expensive American Deluxe line.

Why not making a Squier Standard version with passive electronics and P/J pickups?

That will probably happen. Give it time. Say 3 to 5 years.

I mean the current Dimension basses, not the discontinued MIM 2-octave beasts.

I'll take one in sunburst (to match my other Squiers) and make sure it has a 21 (or is it 22?) fret fingerboard. It's nice to have that high "E." This would be ideal for me, since I actually prefer the sound of Squiers over any of the Mexican-made Fender stuff, and I've found the quality to price ratio much higher with them, too. At least with my experience with both brands, anyway. Why pay more if you don't need to?

Dimensions are 21-fretters.
