don't worry, this isn't your typical "what strings are better" question.

i'm considering buying rotosound monel jazz bass flat wound strings for my squier vintage modified precision bass, but i'm a little worried.

i have heard that flat wound strings give a deeper more percussive tone, like the tone of pickstyle bass playing. however, i sometimes use a pick when i play certain songs (i play mainly classic hard rock, classic heavy metal).

how will pickstyle playing sound on rotosound flat wounds? i'm asking this as i (shockingly) found a bassist on another thread stating that rotosounds are "too bright" for his liking, which i find surprising, considering that flatwounds arent supposed to be too bright (i understand that rotosound monel flat wounds are brighter than the average flat wound string).

any advice or answers will be greatly appreciated.

cheers.

I have Fender flats on my VM Jazz. I like it a lot. It def doesn't sound as bright as a round wound would be. I have Black Beauties on my '87 btw. I know Steve Harris uses Roto's, he's got his own sig model tho, try those since you like Iron Maiden, it'll get the same basic sound, I say basic, cuz unless you're playing his rig, you won't come close to his sound...or his playing -- not to say you play bad, you know what I mean. Steve is Steve, you are you, is all :)
