I have had my Jaguar for a little while now. I love the thing. Great bang for my bucks. I have been recently thinking about customizing the look to it. I am just not digging the tortoise pick guard and silver hardware.

A while back I bought a MIM p bass for suuuper cheap and modded it out. All new hardware, 1/4 pounders, mirror pick guard (nod to Phil Lynott and Steve Harris), purple strap. I was thinking about making my Jaguar look the same. Do you guys think the black and purple would look good on the Jaguar?

I don't think there is anything wrong with it the way it is stock. That said, pickguards for these are not widely available in anything but stock colors and even then aren't easy to find. You are probably looking at custom making the guard. Some aftermarket suppliers might be whipping them out already but not having looked for one I don't know.

I am of the opinion that if you buy a bass and it is sounding OK there is no need to mod it. I don't buy instruments I don't like the looks of very often in the first place. If you want to customize one that is your decision to spend that money. I think it might be money better spent on a better quality instrument in the first place. But if it makes you happy to do it, then do it. Know up front though that usually mods do not return a dime of the money invested in them and no matter how many dollars you throw at this it will still be a Squier.

Modding instruments can be fun and exciting, but I prefer mods that make a difference in sound myself. You seem hung up on cosmetic mods, and that is ok if that is your thing.

I suppose you are right. I bought the bass for the price, the quality, and the body style (love it). I don't know, I might just replace the pick guard and see what it does for me.
