Hi. As you saw in the title, I'm rather new to playing bass and have very little knowledge of how to maintain it, and little knowledge of technical terms. I know the main parts of a bass (body, frets, etc) and how to use the amp, but nothing technical. I tried searching through Youtube but had no luck.

What I do know: I have a very slightly used Squier P-Bass and a new Starcaster 15B bass amp. The bass has 20 frets.

(A friend of mine told me that the pickups had been replaced.)

The most I've done with the bass is play with my pep band (I started on tuba about 8 months ago, no bass clef experience before that). I did pretty good, and I can learn how to play on my own. I've got the musical part of the bass down, I just need the maintenance part of it. Thanks,

Sounds like you've got a proper perspective and the musical background to succeed. Keep at it.

Here's the best place to find everything you need. Just make sure you have some time to spend there. There's a ton of information. Enjoy!

One of the best Precision Bass guys ever didn't seem to know anything about repair and maintenance(James Jamerson).

Don't let the technical stuff get in the way of learning bass music. It can be a distraction more than anything. A good setup wouldn't hurt..but maybe learn how to tweak your bass later.
