I finished the setup on a new Affinity J bass according to the specs in the http://support.fender.com/manuals/instr ... nual_(2011)_English.pdf document. I couldn't find any specific Squier manuals so I am assuming that they are the same specs as the fender counterparts. If not, where can I find the specific Squier Affinity J bass manual?

After setup, the A string buzzes on the 2nd fret only. All frets after 2 are clean. So I had to jack up the action on that one string to keep it from buzzing. All the other strings sound fine. The action on the A string now is 14/64".

My questions are:

What would cause this one string to buzz on that one fret? I am assuming the fret wasn't install correctly at the factory.

How is this issue fixed? Is it even worth fixing on an Affinity J Bass?

If you set up and neck curve is good , very important neck curve = truss rod adjustment. Yes bass set up is almost ( if not always) same.

You could need a fret leveling.

You need the "Fret Rocker" to be sure ;

Is the Affinity J bass even worth fixing at this point? I could probably return it and pay for a new, better bass. What does it usually cost to have fret work done?

If it is only one fret to leveling, a pro luthier can do than for a few dollars while you wait . Be sure to see a real luthier not anybody you are nor shure he is qualified.

But if you don't see many set up problem with this bass price is unknown.

I'd not trade up until trying a fret leveling. Any good tech can do that. Usually it is included in a tech's setup fee and would have been remedied in a shop setup. Will take them about 2 minutes after they get the strings out of the way.
