It would appear to be a Squier MB-4, made in Indonesia. i had one, it was a low end bass, if you plan on growing as a bass player, save your money and get something better, Just my own opinion.

You're welcome. Never played a Cowpoke, but have heard lots of good things from some who own them.

That photo is a Squier MB4.

Actually the Fender MB-4's, made in Japan, are more than decent. They were the last vestige of the Heartfield Project being based on them. When Fender stopped them they turned the model over to Squier and Squier moved production out of Japan. The Fender and Squier look the same from 10 feet away but are quite different in quality of wood, electronics, fretwork, hardware and pretty much everything else.

At one time there was a Fender line of guitars and basses called the "Squier Series" that was made in Mexico. There were Jazzes and Precisions plus Teles and Strats. This was around the same time as the Fender "Traditional Series" which has the same black silk screened Fender headstock logo. The "Squier Series" ones also had a tiny "Squier Series" silk screened logo similar to today's "Deluxe Series" decal size and location. The Fender "Squier Series" were Fender instruments and had Fender serial numbers.

The MIM hierarchy at that time was Standard, Traditional Series and Squier Series. Those were the Squiers that were actually a full blown Fender. There was a great deal of difference in quality of wood, electronics and hardware between the Standards and the Squier Series.

Unfortunately the black silk screened Fender logo has come to be associated with Squier Series instruments and cheapened the Traditional Series instruments to practically the same level as a Squier! Dealers who don't know any better consider them both Squiers. Neither are Squiers of course, they are both Fender.

The Squier Series logo was apparently fairly easy to remove undetectably which might be part of the problem. Some people just scratched it off which you can detect but others found ways to remove it so that you couldn't tell it had been there at all. It makes it hard to tell if a Traditional Series instrument is really a Traditional Series or a Squier Series instrument minus the logo without a first person exam and partial disassembly.
