My standard is my 'Sid' Bass, but I dropped in a set of 1/4lbs. and run her with the DM skullbuster strings...flat out most aggressive P tone you will ever hear. I agree with indie-bass about looking for a bassist though. Transitional Notes and walks are an important part of rock n' roll bass playing and when well placed and used tastefully will add whole new dimensions to your songs. Punk is still rock n' roll after all.

I'll confess to knowing zilch about Pete Wentz or Fallout Boy, but I think it's quite a good looking Pbass all the same!

Even if Pete Wentz isn't the greatest bassist, we should still respect him for writing the lyrics for fall out boy. that is a skill i certainly do not have. one feature of the squier pete wentz which i like is the maple on maple fingerboard. but I do not like the Bat sign.

Telebass, what is the squier telecaster bass like? does the humbucker have high output?

The pickup is wound to 24k or so, just like the original. It works well when plugged into the same input you'd normally reserve for an active, so it can be quite easy to overdrive some amps. It's not a bass for traditional amps, it simply lives up its name as a maker of pure mud. But on a good modern amp like my Markbass, that can be tamed and made to sound a lot better. You do, of course, get a hugely deep tone! I've actually written a fairly comprehensive review and posted it on the Dudepit, FDP bass forum, TDPRI bass place, Badassbassplayers.com, and the UK-based Basschat.co.uk.

the reason i dislike wentz is that fallout boy has sold albums with its looks, not its talent. all the fans are screaming teenage girls, and now most kids that dont know true rock n roll think fallout boy and, say, ac/dc, or zeppelin, or my band are one in the same. also i dont like the maple fretboard or the bat inlay, but the colors do look pretty cool. and i agree with the general consensus here that it was a smart move by fender, unfortunately that's how they got big in the first place, because someone saw the bizness sense in putting that group of fairy boys on a stage and letting the wannabe rocker chicks drool.

just because the guy doesnt play all over the fretboard doesnt mean that he has no talent nor the whole band for that matter. theres only one reason that they sell albums and its because they make music that OBVIOUSLY alot of people want to hear. just cus the guy isnt singing his $@! off while playing intricate lines like geddy lee or bustin out distorted solos like cliff burton doesnt mean that hes not "good". people get into their music because they put their heart into it and thats what the younger audience wants to see. i personnaly dont like him that much but the music collectively together is pretty good. the singer has a pretty killer voice though and if you ask me thats thier strongest "talent" aside from wentz's lyrics as "NicolasNS" pointed out.

I hate pete wentz. He can't make a good bassline, and he's part of the popularisation of an instrument, he's showing people that you could just hack at an instrument and as long as you look good. Other bands, like Rush, inspired people to make a lifestyle-changing decision, whereas wentz just cares about you buying his albums and does a lot to get attention.

On a different note: I might get his sig bass if:

1) it wasn't made out of agathis
2) it didn't have the bat-heart thing.
3) it didn't have a J-bass neck, (that's a disgrace to the P-bass you know)

Meh let em have their stupid signature basses. I've never understood wanting someone else's bass anyway. Prefer to make my bass my own along with the tone (|I'm a poet and I didn't know it).

On a side note I don't understand P bass necks. Not too keen on the tree trunk like feel of them. Horses for courses.

yeah its all personal preferences. agree with you about them being quite large and i love them both but sometimes on a jazz neck i feel too cramped. with a p-neck i feel like i have alot more freedom and room to go somewhere that i cant on a jazz. i have pretty small hands (wich you would think would make me like the jazz better) but i honestly like em both.

i can agree that wnetz isnt the most advanced bass player and that he could do a lot more with the songs bassline wise...but i think its stupid to say that i hate him. i havent met him and therefore i cant say if i like or dislike him.

on a second note, i was thinking that if you took his sig bass and changed the pickguard to a dark acid green color and removed the bat thing it would look sweet. i would change the neck back to a p neck as well...p bass rocks!!

I'd imagine he probably plays fender but squier took up his sig because squiers are at the lower end beginner guitar market. A market primarily aimed at 13/14/15 year olds, a lot of whom will be into all that kinda music/'scene'.

It's clever marketing if nothing else.
