I've never done that and don't really understand it, but I guess to each his own. But I'm also very careful with my equipment and never wander far away so I can keep an eye on it.

Maybe if I had 20 guitars to choose from I'd do something like that, but for now I practice at home on what I play at gigs.

I believe Squier's and Fenders are hardly noticeable live as long as it has proper set up and everthing... don't you agree brotherdave?

Well, the higher end modern Squier stuff is good enough to gig with for sure, the earlier Japanese Squier basses too. If you are talking about a stock Affinity model though it is probably not as good.

The reason I gig with parts basses is because sometimes when I have had to play outdoor festivals and such, it will rain...or worse. I have some Fenders, but if I'm playing outdoors I usually take a parts bass. I have two just for outdoor stuff. If indoors I usually take the better instruments.

Some of those new high end Squier basses are totally killer! Even one of their lesser models impressed me a lot. I actually liked the Squier Jaguar Bass (the 34 inch scale with standard P/J pups and active preamp) I tried about a year ago better than the Fender Jaguar Bass I tried about a year before that. A really amazing bass for the money that is totally gig worthy. I'd probably say an upgrade in some of the hardware would come down the road, but for the money I liked it very much and wouldn't have to mess with the electronics at all!

I agree with brotherdave, the majority of modern Squiers are great instruments for the money and easily gig-worthy. I've been playing for more than 30 years now, and as far as Squier basses, I may notice a difference as a player, but the audience is usually none-the-wiser when it comes to performance.

I own Fender and squier type Jazz basses and I take both to gigs. Sometimes just the squiers. Sometimes just the Fenders. I bought the Fenders to play and would hate to deny the Fender gig time...I mean..why did I buy the fender in the 1st place? Not jst to live at home.

Having said that, I posted on another subject in the Fender jazz forum. I have a Squier Affinity I bought for $100.00 from GC as a another backup( or chalk it up to techno-lust).
Point was, the Squier Affinity sounds WAY better than my Geddy Lee,Fender standard fretless,Squier VM and Squier VM fretless.

I love the sound of that Affinity so much I fear that being damaged/stolen as much as all my others.

I still will take all (not at the same gig of course) out with me for live gigs.

A final note...The Affinity does not feel as good to play compared to any of the rest of my basses. Just sounds the best by a LARGE margin. If stolen/damaged, I would be heart-broken.
