Can any of the folks at Fender tell me if a Squier VM Telecaster Bass Special will fit in in a standard Fender molded TSA case (model# 0996171506)? I'm really happy with the bass; I got a Gator GW-Bass case for it yesterday, but in addition to the case turning out to be kind of a POS (loose latch with stripped screw; warped top that has to be forced into place to latch it), the bass doesn't fit very well in it either. I know I could just put some padding in it if I had to, but if this bass will fit in a Fender molded case, I'm going to take the Gator back and have them order a Fender. Thanks for your help.

Fender used to have two different cases, a Jazz case and a Precision case, for their top 2 basses. The P-Bass case was smaller and fit a Telecaster Bass perfectly too. The modern TSA Approved cases made by SKB are a one-size-fits all thing like the case you tried. They will not be as snug a fit as the old Tolex case. You can still buy the old G&G made Tolex cases, but they are about %10 more than the plastic TSA ones. They will fit the Tele-Bass better. Unless you are flying on a plane the TSA means nothing. I'm not flying a bass anywhere. I'll rent one when I get there.

Thanks for the response brotherdave; the reason I'm asking is because this particular bass isn't shaped like a Precision or a Jazz--it's shaped like an oversized Telecaster and is 32" scale, so it isn't necessarily going to fit in the Fender TSA case made for those two, and I want to be sure it will fit before I have the dealer order one for me. And it's highly unlikely I'll be flying anywhere with it--I just want the TSA one because I really like those cases. I have one for one of my regular Telecasters, and it is all-around solid.
