Greetings:

I recently inherited a 1985 Squier Precision bass, made in Japan, serial # A017xxx. I am planning on selling it but not sure what a fair price would be. Aside from a few minor dings and scratches, the bass is in very good condition. There is no case.

Anyway, I'd appreciate some feedback as to it's estimated value.

Thanks.

Being made in Japan rather than Indonesia or China is definitely a + value. Also may depend on which country you are based at. Any mods on the guitar?

How much are Fender 1985 P Bass MIJ second hands in the same condition, in the U.S?

I've seen them selling for as low as $250 and as high as $500.

I'd like to get some opinions from users on this forum.

Prices vary due market conditions and also by location. This explains the huge range of prices you've seen. I'd have trouble paying $500 for a Squier anything other than the rare USA made ones. In a private party sale you usually will get less than a dealer for the same instrument. If selling an instrument to a dealer they are going to offer you about 50% of what they think they can sell it for. Some people may even say it is worth $600 but good luck actually getting that. Japanese Squiers are definitely considered more valuable than the other Asian Squiers but frankly I think the ones they are making now are some of the best ever.

People bid nutzo prices on eBay sometimes, but they don't always pay you when the auction is over either. I've had that happen to me several times.
