Hi everyone. I looked to see if there was a topic about this and I saw none. So I need to ask anyone especially knowledgeable about Squier paint colors two questions. Here are my two questions:

1. Can you help me ID what color I have.
Image

I've looked on the Fender guitar color chart and cannot decide if this might be Candy Apple Red or Chrome Red (if it is in fact a fender color at all).

And 2. Where can I buy a small amount of the right color? I wanted to match the headstock to the body. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Lee

Candy Apple Red is my vote. This color is clear red over Gold Metallic and I don't think it is easy to duplicate with a one step paint.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for the input, BC. If I end up performing a two-step process, I have items I can practice on before I shoot the actual headstock.

So, anyone else care to give their opinions?

All I'll say is that it's a very coppery looking red, and that must be the metalic gold undercoat showing through. It's a damn handsome paintjob/color. Best of luck to you.

  Are you going to hot rod the hell out of it, while you're at it?

I would :!:

BC Bassman is right. This is Candy Apple Red. Leo Fender's favorite Fender color. He invented it. Hot Rodders copied it to his delight. Candy Apple Red at times also used a white undercoat. But gold metallic is the standard undercoat.

Also I just realized I posted a boo-boo. The undercoat was usually gold under the trans red pre-CBS. CBS at some point went to SILVER metallic. I had a 71 CAR Jazz Bass for a while and I while I thought it had a white undercoat that was likely the Fullerplast sealer I was seeing.

I thought I would post some photos with the most recent additions: chrome covers, thumbrest, and new flatwound strings. I am still working the strings in and they sound better all the time. Lots of vintage thump!

Which model P Bass is that? I've only ever seen Fiesta Red and Metallic Red on the Squier lineup. As far as I can remember.

It is indeed a Squier (of Indonesian persuasion). I guess their Metallic Red is CAR. It sure looks like it anhyway. I am amazed at finding such a nice finish on a squier affinity model.
