The Telecaster Bass Special looks more interesting to me. I like the idea of the front hum bucker, plus the four saddle bridge. I'm not too sure about the two saddle one. I would imagine it could be a pain to intonate. Then again, I could always install a Bad $@! II bridge on, if I like the bass, but not the bridge. I've done that before. If I could, I'd like to try both of them out, though.

One thing I've learned is to not deem something as crap until you've actually had experience with it.

Very cool basses. As always I'm bummed when "vintage" style basses come out with modern specs. :( Very cool though!

How do you intonate the two saddle bridge, anyway? I've never had a bass that had this. I would think the two separate strings might not intonate the same, thus that could be a problem of that system.

It takes longer, and it's an approximation. It's rare that you can get both strings dead on. Though it certainly is possible. Generally, you get one that is dead on and the other just a hair off if you're not trying to spend a good chunk of time with it. As a bassist you'd be surprised how little that hair matters in the mix. It's like setting up a 57 RI P with a raised A pup. It just takes a little extra effort until you master it. Once you do, it's just like any other bass, you just approach the process differently. The first time I intonated my 51RI P it took me almost an hour to get it right. Now it takes minutes in the rare event that I unstring it to give it a good cleaning, or when I shielded the pick up cavity. I don't change strings since I run flats. Even when I used rounds it wasn't an issue. The initial set up is the hardest. Like anything, the more you do it, the easier it becomes.

Well, that's good to know about that. I've been debating on whether I should go back to flats, myself. I'm using an active bass ('94 P-Bass Lyte) so that might smooth it out some more. I used to have a Japanese 50's reissue P-Bass I bought new in the early 90's (white with gold pick guard) that I used flats on. It was one of the best basses I ever played. I was a dumb $@! for getting rid of it. It's action was perfect and I never had to do anything to it. It was one of those finds. You know the story, just about everyone has done that at one time or another. Wound up kicking themselves for getting rid of something because of some stupid impulse or another.

Actually you can get pretty close so long as you stick to standard medium gauge strings. This is true up to a certain extent. You have to remember that nobody was carrying around strobotuners in 1951. I had a 1968 Fender Telecaster Bass and had no major intonation issues that I recall.

Agreed. I've met many bassists intimidated by the two-saddle. It just takes a bit more work and patience in my experience. Though, I have to be honest. If I can ever pick up a used Sting or Sunbusrt 51RI I might "hot-rod" it with a black pickguard and a BAIII. That's only because I'd use rounds on on that bass, though. I love the SCPB tone so much it kills me that I have to choose between flats and rounds. :(

I know what you mean. I like those Leo Quan bridges a lot. I've modded to basses with them and noticed a tremendous difference in sound.

Speaking of Sting, I've recently watch a reunion concert with the Police and I can see why he like his old P-Bass. It has a really nice tone. Then again, I've always loved his sound (one of my influences,) especially when he had the fretless P-bass.

Well, at least now I know about the two saddle bridge, if I ever get a bass that has one.

Well, I recently came across the Fender YouTube channel and watched the demos for this bass. I'm very intrigued. I hope I will able to check one of this out soon. I'm liking the sounds I heard. Of course, hearing something on the internet and playing it for yourself are two different factors, so I guess time will tell.

Because, don't you that south paws are a sign of the devil, and probably godless Communists, too. :P Since I too am left-handed, I've always noticed the lack of left-handed products. Because there were no lefty basses when I started, I learned to play right-handed. When you really think of it, it makes sense to do so, since your dominant hand is left and you fret with it.

That is a pretty good price. I still have yet to try it out, though.

Ok played one of these. SHOCKER! The neck is short scale! Good for a kid or a female player for sure. Good instrument, but the 32" scale isn't my bag. I'll pass for now. Waiting on a full sized one.
