Hello eveyone! This is my first post at the Squier Forums. Although I've got 3 squiers. I am not a bass player , but 2 of them are basses.... :) One Affinity J-bass , and one VM Jazzbass , fretless.
I play them from time to time - especially if a bass is needed for some amateur-recording.
My question is about the Affinity : I like it very much , but I find the sound from the different strings uneven . The strings are pretty new- I even think the action-height is pretty even. Is this normal for basses - or should I change the pickups? Or is it any other tricks to even out the sound? (compressor?) Or are the basses supposed to act this way? Or should I just save up the money for a Fender.........
Thanks in advance

Yeah, I hear ya A-Man 8)

Let me see if I can give you a reasonable answer. First, try a compressor - a good one. Borrow one, or go to a music store to try one/some out. If this works, then great! Problem solved.

Is the string set itself to blame? Or has the sound always been uneven?
Mildly uneven string tone and volume can come from the vagaries of a rosewood fretboard. Some are better than others. If you should zero in on the fact that your fretboard is the culprit. Sell or trade the bass and be done with it.

The Affinity basses are so inexpensive that I would never put new electronics in. You'd want everything new and up-graded. Great pick-ups are only part of the story. New volume and tone controls. New jack. Even new high quality wires. Plus shielding. It's more than your bass is worth. Add in the cost of skilled labor if you can't do the work yourself.

Quick easy answer = Buy A Fender! And you knew that all along.

Thank you for the answer, Linnin!
I don't think the strings are the problem- they are pretty new. And, yes-it's got a rosewood fretboard. Maybe the trouble comes from that. I don't think it has always been that way- but it might just be me developing better ears
I think you are right. I better sell it and buy a Fender
Thanks again! (and now - trying to find out-perhaps i should rather buy a precision... )

You are quite welcome, A-Man. I can't believe nobody answered your post in a month's time.
 Of course a Precision! You already have a VM Jazz, why not a Precision to compliment :?: The Fender Precision Electric Bass Guitar is the sound of rock 'n' roll :!:

Yes- I have not been too interested in basses , but I'm starting to think that the Precision might be more inn ''my street'' ,soundwise . I'll see what I can do :) So maybe the answers comes a bit quicker in the Fender bass forum.....
Cheers!
