I have a VM 70's Jazz with a wicked hum with all of the knobs turned up.

If I just plug into the amp and do nothing, it sounds like an electric distribution center.

Any ideas?

Pots, shielding?

Pickups?

The bass is almost brand new. Build 8/2011 :?:

Is this something new? Or has it always been this way?

New problems might be a disconnect with the bridge ground wire that runs under the body at al angle to the bridge and attaches to the back of the control pots.

Are you sure this isn't just a lifted ground on the amp or loss of the ground in the power supply to the amp?

Perhaps an unshielded speaker cable is being used for the connex between the amp and the bass - that happens a lot.
