Hey. Im looking into getting either a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz bass or a Fender Standard MIM Jazz bass. I've heard the Alnico pickups in the CV are better than the Fender, but i dont know. Any help would be appreciated :)

I give a big thumbs up to the Classic Vibes. I've never owned a standard MIM. I'm sure on youtube there's gotta be demos.

Always play them both if you can. You'll find that no two basses are the same. You'll be the one who has to live with your choice. Make your own decision as to what you like.

^ I do agree. The Classic Vibe sounds great. I haven't tried the Fender Standard MIM. You must try to play both of them on an amp that you have so that you'll personally know the difference between the two and what would you think would suit your taste.

I agree if you have the possibility to try both, do it.
A small suggestion if you don't have the possibility to try them out, you can find audio samples on a lot of basses on http://www.thomann.de/

Personally I would go for the Squier - but only you can make that choice

You never mentioned if you would consider a used MIM Jazz. If you are talking abou two brand new basses, I'd have to go with the Squier. With the MIM coming in at $599.99, and the Squier at $379.99, IMHO, it's a no-brainer.

You may be able to find a nice used MIM Jazz out there somewhere. Many time you'll see posts here about someone finding a great used instrument. I never get that lucky.

Good luck in your search, let us know how it works out

they are both pretty different kind of bass..even though they are both jazz basses. the squier is a replica of a 60's jazz bass. so that means vingtage style frets. the mim fender has an alder body..which in my opinon is much better than basswood. then the squier comes with a high mass bridge, which is better than the bridge that the mim fender has. Id say its really a toss up..both great basses, and easily comparable. I think its just a matter of whether you like vintage style frets, or medium jumbos. Me personally. id rather have a mim fender, i know it sounds shallow, but it carries a much bigger name. though i used to own a squier classic vibe..id rather just save up for a fender.

I say go with the Classic Vibe Jazz bass. In its current specification, the Classic Vibe basses sound the best over all of the Mexican Fender basses, IMHO.

I don't care that its a basswood body. It sounds great.

I owned one for a month and returned it due to some financial needs but I would buy another one if I get the opportunity and I own several USA Jazz basses.

Good luck with your decision.

You're getting great advice from everyone here - Mine will be try out both, put price aside. Value wise, you can't beat the CV. Resale wise, you can't beat the Fender. The MIM has been so good since 2010, which they had to be to compare to better craftsmanship to the top line Squiers. Which is a good thing for us right. Someone mentioned used. That's a great option also if Fender is what you're looking for. The Squiers sell for higher used, not because they hold value better, but more because the price point was lower new, less to come down.

Again, try both, with the same amp, with the same setting. Go make up your decision from there. I have both. I've not touch my VM in a long time tho - which means nothing cuz I've been playing the Franken P Project, it's my 'new' toy :)

Good luck OP!
