Seriously, no manual? Is it really that frigging expensive and or difficult to at least provide an online manual?!?!
My very first Fender Squire had Fender (in big letters) decal on the head stock, an allen wrench and OMG a flippin manual!

Just killed an hour trying to find out what the hell the four knobs are supposed to do on my VM Jaguar bass.....rediculous! I mean really....even just a zerox with the details....is this really too much to ask?

If anybody knows the info would be appreciated.

I've been searching relentlessly for a manual, or preferably a schematic, of the VM Jag since yesterday. Was hoping I might find something here.

Good luck...from the looks of things Fender does'nt really GAF about the squier line beyond the revenue it generates. You'd think they would make every effort to make owning a Squire as positive an experience as possible to lure customers towards buying a "real" Fender when considering their next guitar purchase.

I love my Jag it's every bit as good as my Gibson SG bass (in some ways it's even better) but I gotta say not being able to get basic information about it from it's designer/manufacturer just because it's not a more expensive model is BS.

No sadly. Those were the first places I looked.
Thanx tho.

Maybe I should be asking which other Fender/Squire basses have four knobs one of which is "Bass booster")....maybe I get lucky...I dunno

Have heard this bass is supposed to have a double T/R as well.....I see only one adjuster, so I assume this is just a rumor...again I dunno.

At this point I think my best bet in sorting it all out will be to disassemble the dang thing and chase the wiring...not the most thrilling proposition seeing as it's brand frigging new (making it my second new new instrument in 30 years of playing)...I haven't even removed the protective film from the pickups or guard yet...But I have played with it enough to know it NEEDs a set of Rotosounds, a new battery, truss adjustment, a neck shim (the action is a little high, but buzzes if set lower), and a bypass for the boost circuit.

for those that need to know the knobs go volume, volume, tone, and boost from top to bottom.

got the action fixed up pretty decent for now...fender thin pick in the top of the neck pocket, tightened the truss and dialed the bridge down...nice and low, no buzz. At some point I'll shave the neck pocket and ditch the pick, but for now as time doesn't permit it will have to do...definitely not something that should be rushed...or attempted by the faint of heart...but for those crazy (or skilled) enough the rewards are more sustain and easier action if you get it right...get it wrong...well....at least it wasn't a "real" Fender....it will make a nice doorstop or wall hanger I guess

I was a little disappointed at the lack of a manual also. I don't know about your Jag, but I just purchased a active jazz bass 5 and the knobs are as follows: master volume, pan pot, treble eq (on top), bass eq (on bottom) and then mid eq. The switch is for active and passive settings.

Thank you for pointing that out. Been looking for that manual, too

Those links to the service diagrams are useful - the service diagram tells you what each pot does.

Although a manual provided with a new bass would be a good idea.

Usually the manuals with the Fender instruments were famously useless anyway. They were generic. They had great information in them like, "Climate change can effect your instrument's performance. Take your instrument to the Fender Dealer for neck adjustments." Things like that. Usually the manual got tossed first thing. Some of them even had infamous typos but they were all pretty much useless.

Recently Fender has taken to removable plastic overlays to explain what the knobs do.

I have three thoughts on this. 1. If a bass is so complicated that you actually need a manual to operate it, you probably need a simpler instrument. 2. It isn't just Squier either, the last full blown Fender I bought, sealed in the box from the factory, didn't have a manual either....no wrenches....nothing but the instrument. I felt lucky to get strap buttons and strings included frankly. 3. No other instrument I ever bought came with a "user manual" other than a Fender bass (but that was in 1971.) Selmer Paris Bb clarinet, no manual. Selmer Paris Alto Sax....no manual. Ludwig drum set, no manual. LP Cabasa, no manual. Hohner harmonica....no manual.

You should have seen me trying to figure out my new Squier Bass VI. Damn!! I did figure out that the 4 switches are off when down, sequence is N,M,B & 4th switch is choke. If you need to raise the bridge like me, it can be done! Insert a very small allen wrench into the slot (1/16 I Think) you will be flying blind so be sure and use a pro wrench, those adjustment screws have that soft (easy to ream) feel about them. Clockwise raises the bridge if I remember correctly. Of course you are going to loosen those strings to the point of nil pressure. Thank God the saddles are individual & adjustable for height. I suspect foam under the pickups. Foam is not what I expect to replace springs for pickup height adjustment. I am going to investigate/fix this problem later if it does exist. Right now I rewarding myself with some playtime after figuring out a strange (for me) guitar. A sheet of paper with a few words would have saved me some time & guesswork.

Oh my goodness, they don't come with wrenches anymore? Wow.

It was a Fender Japan 51 RI. I have two, but only one came in the original Matsumoto sealed box.

Would be nice if a Fender / Squier rep looked at these forums, they may improve their overall customer relations. Almost everyone in the world has their manuals on the internet so you can download them and read up on the particulars. You're lucky to get any useable information from Fender. Too bad, I like their stuff.

Well, i got wrenches with my new Squier bass, no manual. You really want to get jacked, send them an e-mail and wait forever for a response. Jut be happy with what you have, after you buy it, you're on your own.
