I have a Squier CV P-Bass (in Fiesta Red, not that it matters), and play Motown almost exclusively. Does anyone know which Seymour Duncan pups the Squiers are modeled after? I figure if I know what the baseline is, I can more easily figure where to go next.
I'm looking for the tone that Duck Dunn and James Jamerson had. I have the B-15, I have the LaBella "M" flatwounds, but I still don't have the tone.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The pickups on the CV AFAIK, are not modelled after Duncan pickups. I think you may be thinking of the Duncan Designed p'ups on the Vintage Modified basses. Those, IMO, have that old school tone you may be looking for.
As far as what SD p'ups will get you that vintage sound, I don't personally know, but I've heard good things about the Antiquity p'ups.

That may be what I was thinking of, true enough. I will have to look at the Antiquity pups, though. Thanks.

I would recommend and Duncan SPB-1 pickup. I use it on my Mexi-Standard and have that vintage tone, though I did change the capacitor. Try that.
