I recently aquired a Squier by Fender acoustic electric bass guitar serial # CS01100338 model # SB-31MBLK, crafted in China. The only thing I can find out about this instrument is that it is discontinued and it is black  (BLK in model #). Can anyone tell me why it was discontinued and when and where it was made. I believe the C in the serial number is China but have been unable to find the S. Thanks a ton!

It seams strange to me nobody can say when this guitar was built or why they stopped making it. It has decent electronics and good sound. mine is black with cream colored trim, really a nice looking instrument.

This ad indicates that it was made in at least 2001.

It's tough finding details on Squier items.

I have noticed that the Fender BG-31 acoustic bass (which doesn't seem to be on this site anymore) is quite similar to this one. I'm wondering if they just changed the name to Fender and just kept the model going on for awhile? I remember the Squire and if you can compare the two by their specs and appearance, they really do seem to be the same instrument.

I ran into the same "lack of information" wall with my Fender Montara. It's a great guitar and I love it but no one could tell me anything about it, like they'd never heard of it.

Finally got some info but it took a couple calls and emails to get it. I know they've done lots of things and maybe I can understand that in the 50's records may have been "hazy" but my Montara was made from 90-92 so you'd think any company would have a system down by than?

Good luck.
