You can buy individual strings but it's more worth it to buy a whole new set really.

I dunno what strings they put on em, probably fenders, but try some other brands and gauges of string. You never know, you might find strings that are better for you :)

they tend to be a cheap quality string as it doesnt cost them much to put it on a cheap bass so i'd recomend you buy a low price, whole set of strings untill your confident and more knowledgable to know what strings and gauges you wish to use next

Most bass guitars come with a cheap set of fender strings on them, you can go to most music supply stores and buy individual strings, however your better off buying a whole new set, put on the new set and save to originals in case you break one in the future, that way you have one to use in a pinch. As far as new strings go, I personally play Ernie Ball Power Slinky's. They are a thicker gauge string that give you the deep crunch sound while maintaining excellent sustain. You can get them from Musicians Friend for $25.00 for a five string set.
