after a couple of hours trying to identify my latest addition, I'm looking for some help. Anyone able to give this little guy a name?

I've cleaned him, re-strung him and given him a basic setup. Seems pretty eager to annoy the landlord with the practice amp, I'm sure the BXR 400 will wake the dead with it.

I'm not sure what you've got, but I've got one too! It looks like a squire "modern" but all the ones I see pictures of have a skull and crossbones inlay at the 12th fret. I recently bought a body off eBay that was described as a squire bass but when I went to install the neck I found out it has a 2 3/8" neck pocket. A standard fender bass neck pocket is ussually 2 1/2". Now I've got this bastard bass body with a funky pocket and the scale is even off buy a half inch, maybe it has an extra fret?

Looks like a Squier MB-5, I have one in the burgandy color.

thanks Oxfan! I'm really finding this to be a nice piece of work. Stays in tune, not too heavy. I thought about a set of active pups, have you done anything to yours?

That's the problem with fleabay, sometimes you get pinched. And as far as I have seen there isn't any distinctive markings on the body of a genuine fender to know between genuine and knockoff.

1/8" difference wouldn't be another fret. Sounds like a design alteration to avoid the trademark infringement of a fender body. Shape is the same, but a fender neck won't fit it. Hopefully you didn't pay too much for it.

Nope, left it as is. I can see why you're thinking active, pups aren't that great. Luckily I have decent equipment to help. I think Sansamp should start paying me for my recommendations.
