I've never heard of such a thing, but I've now been asked by more than one person if I've seen them in the stores yet. Guess they figure I visit music shops a lot
And if they should be looking in music shops of game/electronic shops for these things.

Is there such a thing ?
Note I am not a gamer, we do have an old unused wii (thing has got to be 5 or 6 years old now) in the house somewhere, so gaming is another forign topic to me :)

(also posted this in the Squire guitar forum, more likely subject fot it)

Yes, there is. Check the Squier website for details.

Thanks, found the Squire page for it.
Last updated in June, has broken image links and just says more info comming over next months.

Asked a couple of shops and they say they have no plans to carry it as they figure there will be no market for it. (somthing I kind of figured too :) )

I have been lurking here for a few weeks but joined the forum to answer this question (although now that I am here I might try and join in a bit).

Indeed there is a Fender Squire Strat coming and it is in some Best Buy stores already as a demo.

Here is a review of the unit:
http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/I ... spx?Page=1

Essentially you can play bass and guitar in Rock Band 3 with this unit in "Pro" mode.

At present there is another unit on the market which has 6 strings and 102 buttons over 17 frets. I have this unit:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/17/rock ... di-pro-ad/

I have no idea if either of these units will find traction in music stores. However, places like Best Buy which sells instruments as well as electronics certainly will be moving both of these items.

I am no musician but I have long wanted to play bass. I have been learning a little playing the Mustang Guitar in Pro Bass mode. Obviously the strings are too close together and they are all the same size which complicates things. However, I am learning a little about hand placement and this experience is encouraging me to actually get a bass and amp and get some lessons.

If the Squire controller can encourage people to take up playing real instruments and pursue music this is good for Fender and other manufacturers.

More information can be found about the Squier by Fender Stratocaster Guitar and Controller right here:

www.fender.com/rockband3

This instrument is both a real guitar that can be plugged into a real amplifier OR can be used as a controller to play Rock Band 3 in PRO mode, allowing you to play for real. The latter uses a MIDI output (on the guitar) and is plugged into a console-specific MIDI adapter (available for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii consoles), which in turn plugs into your gaming console.

There has been a LOT of misinformation spread around the interwebs about this product, unfortunately. The two article links posted by Zoodies95 are actually good articles but they only capture *some* of the back story.

So take some time to read about this awesome instrument and check out all of the beautiful photography. This guitar is truly revolutionary in terms of what it can do and is a lot of fun to use when playing Rock Band 3.

<End Fender Employee Plug>

<Begin Real Speak>

I am a hardcore gamer as are several other members of the Web Team. (Only makes sense, right?) This is totally cool for someone like myself that can play guitar but would like to learn to play better. I started playing when I was 15 and due to a lack of constant practice, never really progressed to the degree I should have. Now I have the opportunity to sit down and learn to play better via the in-game tutorials and from practicing from playing the songs in the game. Personally, I am thrilled at this idea. I get to become a better guitarist WHILE playing games!

Now the only trouble is deciding whether or not I am gonna play Rock Band 3 or Read Dead Redemption :P

Thanks for the info and post Steven. Any chance of a RB3 enabled Squier Bass?

To keep this somewhat on-topic I just got my first Squier bass:

Now to get somewhat proficient with it!

I have yet to see the RB3 Squier strat at a Best Buy yet. I understand that Best Buy is getting a month's exclusivity and you can only get the Squier from them in March 2011 with other retailers following from April onwards. I will need to try it to see how well it works when playing the game. I play RB3 regularly and at present I am using the Mad Katz "Fender Mustang" Pro controller but the Squier will be a much more preferable mode as it is an actual instrument that also happens to be able to use with RB3 as well.

As an aspiring bassist I find it frustrating to try to play bass with a guitar. Is there any chance that you guys might consider making a RB3 enabled bass? Would you consider making a version of the vintage modified or classic vibe for this purpose? Even if it were only available via special order I would gladly invest in one.
