how consistent is the quality of the fender guitars/bass? some say there are american made which doesn't really live up the expectation.some say some mexican made are better, hit or miss..if that is the case, how would you know if your paying huge amount of money for something that doesn't worth it?i hope this question will be answered for the benefit of those who wants to know and own a fender...thank you..

It can be hit or miss with just about any mass produced brand like Fender/Squier, and country of manufacture is no absolute guarantee of quality, although you're more likley to get a good American made bass than something made somewhere else. But make no mistake, you can get excellent basses from other countries too. You really need to judge each instrument on an individual basis.
The best thing oyu cna do is to get an idea of what models you have an interest in, and if you can, try them out at a store. That way you can find the bass that you like the best, and weed out the ones that have problems. Keep in mind though, if the basses you try in the store have a bad setup, that's pretty much par for the course, most every bass will need a pro setup. On the other hand if you can't try them out at a store, and have to buy online, it's important you buy from an online store that has a liberal returns policy, like Musician's Friend.

Only way to be sure is to go to the shops and keep trying different axes until you find one you really like.
Then buy the actual one you tested out..

In my case a Squire Classic VIbe 60's bass won out over Fender MIM bass, did not have funds to look at any from the Fender American Deluxe series.

For my stratocaster I actually brought home serveral in a row and took them back to the store.
Nice to deal with small local shops that let you do that. :) :!:
First stated off with a Fender MIM, finally ended up with a American Deluxe HSS that was the keeper.

Quality varies in everything mass produced, the higher end lines are less likely to have imperfections slip through. But it can happen.

Yes to all the previous posts. Play every bass you can get your hands on, when it's the right one you'll know it.

yeah which reminds me, i had a hard time before, i went trying Fenders, Washburn, Ibanez, Peavey and other basses, then I finally got what i wanted, a Fender Jazz bass fits right into my hands and slapping felt like magic which i couldn't do well with the other brands..
