Looks like I got lucky too. My neck is solid and even the tuners aren't too bad. they're better than the ones on my FSR Precision. I really have no issues with my VM at all.

I'm a guitar player and the VM Jazz was my first bass that I picked a few months ago. I find the neck very stable and the tuners are nice and tight - stays in tune quite well. The only change I envision is lowering the action some, but just haven't gotten around to it since I'm just having too much fun playin it. While I have no bass experience to compare it to, I've had a ton of guitars and this VM is put together very nicely IMO.

Lowering the action was all I did, a few friends have played it and remarked on the feel. I've got the strings down so close I can't figure out why they don't buzz. Very nice bass to play.

As far as the neck binding on the Squier is concerned, if you're implying that it's painted on, you'd be incorrect, that's real binding, and those inlays are real as well, just in case you thought they were painted on, too.

You are right, it does have real binding and inlays. I now have a set of 45-100 GHS Boomers on it, as well as having some one else do the set up on it. He got it right. The bass sounds and plays great. Next time I will get new strings and a proper set up done before I comment on here.
