Hi guys & gals this is my first post as ive only just registered.

Used to play many years ago and just recently bought myself one of the Affinity Series Bass packs to get into playing again, couldnt believe the quality of the gear, the bass (metallic red precision) played great straight from the box, decent action etc, i need to give it a proper set up but as it stands its fine as it is.
tHe rumble 15 amp is perfect for what i need it for and the tuner, headphones etc are a nice touch and you can just plug in and play.

Im 42 by the way but i was like a kid at christmas waiting for the bass to arrive.

Ive posted a pic below, the only thing ive done is covered the white pickguard with black vinyl as im not a fan of white pickguards plus its a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new pickguard.
Hope to pick up a few tips on this forum.
cheers
mick

Welcome to the Forums. You'll find a lot of good people here and a lot of good advice and ideas. Personally, I think you got a great bass to re-enter the low end. I have two Squier basses and a Fender FSR mexican, my VM Jazz is a great instrument.

Enjoy your new toy and remember to keep it fun.

I used to play in bands in the late 70s. Played a 1973 Fender Jazz Bass through a Traynor yb1a and a Traynor yb18 cabinet. I sold the bass to pay the rent in 1980, and lost the Traynor head along the way. Two years ago I refinished an old raven bass I had and started thinking about playing again, but found it hard to get motivated. This year I bought a Squier Vintage Modified TB bass and really started to enjoy playing again. Got me thinking of my old bass, and how I could not afford to get one like it. So I got a Vintage modified Jazz Bass and am very satisfied with it. I made a couple cosmetic changes to it to make it look like my old bass. Am enjoying relearning the bass again after all these years.

The picture on the right is my old 73 Jazz Bass.

Very nice, glad to see you found a bass you could be happy with. I have one too and found it to be just like the old Jazz basses from the '70's.

With as many of us on the Forums that have VM Jazz Basses, we should start a club.

Welcome back. It too took a bunch of time off. I didn't realize just how much I missed it until I got back in.

Welcome back to the low end...lovely bass for sure!! Do you have pic of the new bass you got too?

Edit for stupidity, didn't realize the other pic is the VM.

From every online music store I've ever visited (Musician''s friend, Sam Ash, Sweetwater, etc.) The Squier VM Jazz is the best selling Squier bass hands down. Whenever you are given the option to list the basses by "best selling" first, the VM Jazz is always the first in line.

I just tried that, never did do that, I usually just browse by brand...but on GC it didn't show the VM, it shows Fender, MusicMan, Ibanez, etc...that's with Top Rated, so I tried Top Seller...same, no VM on the top list. the only VM is the Precision, came in #47. Am I doing it wrong?

On Musician's Friend, #13 on best selling, but also the VM Precision.

Bat am I checking this incorrectly?

Yah, I noticed the same thing at Musician's Friend (which is part of GC) no VM jazz (except for the lefty version) listed. They may be out of them and are restocking, this has happened before. It should reappear shortly. Oh, and I meant it's the best selling Squier bass, if I didn't make that clear.
BTW, just checked Sweetwater, the Squier VM Jazz is listed as their most popular 4 string electric bass of all brands.

dude, huge thumbs up for re-creating your former flame :)
is that a gold control plate, or is it just the angle of the photo on the chrome playing tricks on my eyes?

Just the way the chrome reflects on the control plate.

Hey Bassman - looks like Squier did a nice job in capturing a very close representation of your original '73 Jazz. Your pickguard/thumb rest additions round it out nicely! How does the VM feel and play compared to the original? I'm always curious how newer instruments stack up against those they were modled after.

The neck on the 73 was much more stable than the Squier, the Squier seems to always need adjustment. The binding on the neck on the Fender you never felt the frets as it was bound not just painted. It's hard to remember the sound of it but I remember the Fender with Rotosound strings seemed to resonate a long time, not s much the Squier.

A couple of things - IME, the neck on my VM Jazz is just as stable as the one on my '08 MIA Jazz, I guess it might be the luck of the draw., but most reports from VM J owners agree with my experience
As far as the neck binding on the Squier is concerned, if you're implying that it's painted on, you'd be incorrect, that's real binding, and those inlays are real as well, just in case you thought they were painted on, too.
