Hi,

I am about the replace the Fender vintage pickups for my J bass Squier. I looked at the wiring inside and I saw that they crossed wiring the neck and bridge pickups. I mean the yellow wire from the neck pickup soldered to the bridge pot and the red wire from the bridge pickup soldered to the neck pot. Is this a mistake or they try to balance the sound to get the best of both? On the Squier website wiring diagram shows neck pickupp wires are for neck pot and same with the bridge. Thanks.

Concerning your bass, it is a mistake and reversing the pot wiring does absolutely nothing in terms of altering the sound. Wire your new pickups the way you know they should be per the established diagram on the website.

Maybe the Chinese worker was exhausted with the work for $50 a month. But even the wires were crossing to the other pot, the bass was sounded really good.
