Hi,

I have an entry J bass Squier, this is my summer project to upgrade this bass. I bought a set of Fender vintage noiseless pickups and will re-paint the bass body.

There seem to be a black ground wire link the pot tones and send to the hole to touch the bridge base.

1/ I had stripped all the paint off including the black paint on the pickup cutaways and volume cavity. I will re-paint the whole body but
do I need to conductive shield these areas?

2/ I left about 1/2 inch of wire from the pot. Can I just twist the end of these wire to the new pickup wires and not to solder them?

3/ If I have to solder the wire to the pots, can I insulate the soldering point with a drop of polyeurythane? Many thanks.

I need all the helps I can get, I am not an electrician and had never done this before.

Fender's "Noiseless" pickups are humbuckers. Fender just came up with a memorable name for their models of same.

None of your guitar needs any additional shielding. That black wire from your pots to beneath your bridge must be restored as that is what grounds your bridge and strings with the rest of the guitar.

For best results, no the wire leads should not be twisted. The old leads should be unsoldered and the new leads should be soldered in their proper places.

Do not put polyurethane over any solder joints. In this context, proper soldering needs no insulation.
