Have any of you purchased pickguards for your Squiers? If so, just wondering where.

I just recently got a Vista Tone Musicmaster, love the bass but it's white on white w/white headstock, needs some color. Found prices so far from a couple places, range of $70-$110 for a pickguard,

Really, that much for a pickguard? I'm tempted to just paint it or something myself but part of me always thinks keeping the original as is and on hand is a good idea too.

Just wondering if any of your Squiers got some updates like that, and why is it so hard to find Squier parts?

Most P or J pickguards cost around $20 to $50 from places like Guitar Center or Musiciansfriend.com. You can try painting it, but make sure you use a 'plastic adhesion promoter' such as Bulldog spray. You can find it somewhere like an auto paint store.

Getting a custom cut pickguard would be the way to go, but those are generally expensive, unless you know someone who has a bandsaw.

Since it's a Musicmaster I can't use the standard P or J guards, I just sent a tracing to WD Music last Thursday. The guess is around $70 for a Blue Pearl, awaiting confirmation on that but that's probably the way I'll go.

That white one rocks as far as feel and tone, as good if not almost better than my original MM, but that all white look has a sort of "universal urinal" tint if you know what I mean, needs some dressing up. 8)

A blue pearl pickguard on that bass will look really nice!
Post pics when you're done. I'd love to see it!

I also have a 1997 Squier Vista Musicmaster bass with the white/white color scheme. I put black knobs on it to go with the black pickup. Cool little bass huh??
Question, the headstock on mine faded to a light cream color where the body is still the bright white color. They did not fade the same. Did that happen to yours also??

I would say that if you look really close the headstock may be a little more cream colored than the body. Mine has black knobs already, in fact I think they're from a Les Paul, that style.

So I'm talking to a guy today about a pickguard, and really I was trying to get him to justify $100 for a Blue Pearl pickguard. And he says to me, "Do you really want to spend that much on this piece for a $100 bass?"

I was floored, this isn't a bottom line, low quality bass. The upgraded pickup, the string through body, even the painted headstock are evidence of it's good quality. So in other words I won't be buying anything from him.

Love the bass, but I just need a splash of color, or a design or something on it. I sort of see all that white as a blank slate.

So I got a $60 "blue/gray" pickguard from Jeannie Pickguards and just got it installed, looks pretty sharp.

I'd recommend this company too, ordered and rec'd within a week, fit like a glove, no problems at all.

Pictures to follow.

Some people are just gear snobs.
