I have no idea how this happened. I'm pretty new to the electronics part of guitars and basses, but I followed the wiring diagrams perfectly and everything is wired fine. The only problem is there's that 60 cycle hum but it's LOUD. It comes in over the notes. Wierdly enough it didnt start doing this till I used it with another amp.

Another side note, did anyone else know that the Squire Affinity P Basses (the bass I put the quarter pounder in) use foam to push the pickups up? I didn't and now I have to take apart the whole damn thing when I get some springs so that my pickup can come above my pickgaurd. :x

That Duncan pickup is humbucking by design. Obviously either something is in fact, wired wrong or you have serious line noise issues beyond your bass.

As to foam vs. springs for pickup height, that's a common practice.

Well far as I can tell the wiring is fine, and I'm sure some of the noise that I get from all my basses is caused by interference from outside sources such as the lighting I use. I don't think it's entirely a wiring issue, it could have something to do with the way the tone pot was wired from the factory because I'm using the stock potentiameters.

If your OEM pots were/are wired correctly, they would not be the cause unless of course, if either (or your cap) is defective.

10 Commandments for Hasslefree Pickup Mods

Thou shalt have a clean, well lit workspace
Thou shalt have a multimeter to check continuity
Thou shalt have at least a 40 watt soldering iron
Thou shalt know how to properly tin a soldering iron
Thou shalt know what a good solder joint looks like
Thou shalt know where to place ground solder joints
Thou shalt know how to star ground
Thou shalt measure twice, then cut once
Thou shalt know when you are in over your head
Thou shalt know when to get professional help

Anyone have a different version?

I like those 10 commandments. Anyways I have an SX Jazz bass that I've just put pickups in and I figured while I'd look into the P Bass at the same time. So I bought a 40 watt soldering iron because the other I used was only 25 watt, and interestingly enough it was the ground wire that came off. It broke free from the solder (even left a hole). I thought it was fine at first! Must have been the Ashdown amp I borrowed that broke it

Try swapping the pickup wires. Put the white on ground and the black on volume pot and see if it helps.
