Guys any suggestion on the pickup replacement of a Squier VM?

I'm also planning to switchout the 500k pots to 250k

i find the stock duncan designed to be a bit bright and kinda like that SJB 1 sound... i was looking for a deeper or smoother tone to match the brightness of the maple wood of the body..

as for strings.. i use the common nickel rounds eg. Ernie Ball and D'Addarios and stainless rounds on rare occasions..

Why not try the D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings for a slightly warmer tone. I use them on my Squier Vintage Modified 70s Jazz and find the tone very acceptable for my playing. They are not as bright as round wound strings but not as "dark" as flat wound strings.

Changing the strings is easier (and less expensive) than changing the pickups!

:)

I will try... just got a set of Chromes.. though it may sound a lot less brighter than the half rounds but they're bright flats...

Try adjusting that third knob. It's for tone....

err.. rolling the tone off loses the character of the bass.. well not really a bad thing but... i did that.. works for reggae and other smokey dubs..
