Hey guys I was thinking of doing a "make over" for my Squier Affinity J-Bass any suggestions on what to do or what to put it? especially the tuning keys..
I'm new to this kind of thing so like here are my options:

Bridge: Gotoh201, BadAss II or Wilkinson Bridge

Pickups: Fender CS60 or Duncan's Antiquity II or Basslines SJB-1

Nut: Micarta or Bone

Neck: Allparts vintage style neck or Mighty mite

Tuners: I'm not quite sure on these.. depends on what neck right??
I was thinkin Schaller BM, (need extra help on these)

To tell you the honest truth, there is nothing wrong with anything you've selected; that being said, I am of the opinion that if you upgraded the pickup (to, say, a Basslines Quarter Pound) and controls, as well as a new pickguard, you will be instantly happier with your P bass. :)

The Badass is better than the Gotoh, as it will grealy improve the sustain.

Graph-tech, Corian or Tusq are alternative nut materials that are becoming more popular than bone or micarta. That will depend on what your tech has on hand at the time.

Warmoth necks are the only way to go for me... :)

The Shaller bass tuners are good, too. You may also want to consider the Hipshot ultralite tuners as well. Both are available from Stewart-MacDonald.

sir mike thanks much for the reply,
well I've been checking out Warmoth neck, are they direct replacement for Squier's?
They do have thicker necks well I'm looking for a softer C neck though..

By the way I also checked out Hipshots but I don't know what to put it.. which would it be? HB1, HB2, HB3 or HB7?

HB1's looks like upgrades for Musicman's and more like Schaller BML

HB2's similar to Schaller's BMFL

HB3's looks like vintage 60's tuners

and HB7 as stated looks like replacement for MIM Fenders

I also read that MightyMite necks cannot accept vintage style tuners but instead Fender Standard Open sTyle tuners...
err what does that mean?

The Warmoth necks have what they call a "standard thin" profile. I believe that they are slightly slimmer than the stock Squier necks. They also com with a bonus 21st fret as a standard feature. A basic neck is $180US and they go up from there. you can specify any custom touches you want, or buy one of their in-stock necks.

As far as the tuners go, I was thinking of the Shaller BML Lite tuners. You can see them on the Warmoth site. I apologise for the mixup. You could also wee the Hipshot tuners I mentioned at the Stuart MacDonald website.

I think that the Mighty Mite necks take tuners with a modern 17mm peghole, instead of the vintage 11/16" peghole.

hope this helps :)

@mike

thank you so much.. It makes sense to me now..so mightymites accept smaller pegholes..
OK OK I think I'm gonna scratch out the MightyMite one well I was looking for necks that can fit vintage styles machine heads.. its just me but I'd Prefer Hipshot HB3 or Fender Reissue (nickel),
have you tried Fender Vintage Reissue keys on Warmoth neck?
I still have my 50-50's on Allparts and Warmoth but well, I can't seem to get any decent information about Allparts specs
not even on basspartsresource.com

Oh and by the way, where can you get those tort pickguard that would fit Squiers or even Fender Standards?

i dropped it dude... its hard to find parts in our country, well it was a long time ago, back then i was starting to get a bass then i thought getting a Squier and modify it well yes markbass did make thing possible but not for me...
i figured out that a stock Mexican would be easier to modify and swap the pickups and I'm good to gig...
