Hello everyone!

For some months now, I've been planning to buy a Squier Classic Vibe 60's or a Vintage Modified Precision Bass but things didn't work out for me, 'job-wise' and I have to stay with the Affinity P, still I would like to make some changes.

I would like to change the pickups to be more precise.

My question would be: other than the pickups, are the Affinity Precision Bass guitars all right? Are there problems with the neck, the truss rod, the bridge, the tuners or any other part except for the pickup?

What do you think? Would it be a good purchase with all the modding?

ANY and ALL input and suggestion is appreciated. :)

I had to replace the dead pickup in my Affinity Bass. Now I believe the capacitor has a short in it. Having had the Bass apart I suggest you just leave any Affinity Bass the way it is and just play it. The quality really isn't high enough to be putting money into it in the form of mods.

SQUIER STANDARD FROM LATE 80'S MID 90'S, STURDY AND TYPICALLY VERY GOOD SOUNDING, IF YOU CAN DO THE MODS YOURSELF THEN START WITH SWITCHCRAFT JACK, 1MEG CTS POTENTIOMETER FOR VOLUME-500K CTS FOR TONE AND THEN TRY A TON OF DIFFERENT CAPACITORS, VINTAGE TO NEW. PICK THE ONE YOU LIKE. VINTAGE WIRE WOULD HELP, WERE TRYING TO UPGARDE, RIGHT? THEN A REAL FENDER PICKUP- NEED PARTS? ASK - REASONABLE. AN AFFINITY GOOD FOR REHEARSAL NOT A STAGE OR RECORDING GUITAR- TO EACH HIS OWN THANKS -Z-

Hello rkithun.
I have an affinity p bass which has been in my pro armoury for the past 12 years. I have used it profeesionally for stage and studio use without a problem. A few years ago I replaced the stock pick-up with a Kent Armstrong Vintage which has been an improvement. It was from the first batch of affinity Squiers (strat/tele/p bass) and had an ash body( yes, it's heavy!!) and a maple neck without the skunk stripe. It was made in China. People have complimented me on my bass sound so, forget all all those who deride the Squier p - they don't know what they are talking about.
Dr Bass.

MY '98 Affinity P is a tough instrument. It has been used for all sorts of venues and it's always been 100% on.

The neck is strong and has only required one truss rod adjustment in all that time.

I've got ROTO77s on it and they are very HIGH TENSION strings and never a whimper from the neck.

The p'ups finally died - well one of them did - and I just put a set of Peavey Ps in it and it's fresh all over again.

The body is a little on the havy side but it really makes it a solid perfromer.

I refuse to damage the tone by putting a heavy-mass bridge on it since I like the low notes and too much mass sucks the life out of the bass.

The only real mod I made was adding a pot and another parallel .1mF cap that I can call IN/OUT for the bottom in Motown and some surf music.

I like it stock and it's a real good singer in my choir. I won't change anything unless it actually breaks or flames on me.

At one point I was going to play the decal and pickguard game, but decided it's yards cooler with it looking as stock as possible.

It makes the guys with a zillion-dollar Warwick cringe when I bring it out of the case, but they tuck their tails when it speaks. I love that.
