Howdy folks!
I just purchased an Affinity Jazz Bass V and I am not crazy about the white pickgaurd. So I am gonna order a new one from Warmoth. I have narrowed it down to 3 choices.I used GIMP to do some mock ups below>

From L to R:

Silver Pearl,Silver Shell,Black Pearl

Well, what are your opinions?

I like those white pickguards, although I agree - they're a bit too conventional.

Black Pearl if you ask me. :)

OK folks...instead of spending anywhere from 50 to 75 bucks on a fancy pickguard for my Affinity Jazz Bass V, I had a friend of mine paint the guard with Prismatic paint. This is an effects paint which utilizes metallic specks to refract light and produce a "prism" effect when subjected to bright lights. Not exactly sparkle/glitter or chameleon but a very nice effect. The paint is about $300.00 per quart!
Here are some pics but to be honest they do not do it justice.
The process involves basing out the guard with a flat black and then wet sanding with 1000 grit. Then several layers of the prismatic paint is sprayed on.When dry, another 2-3 coats of high gloss clear is applied resulting in a glass like finish.
