These are great:

D'Addario Chromes ECB80 - Ribbon Wound - Super Soft Gauge (.040-.095)

... and they feel very smooth as well. :)

I use D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings on my Squier V-M 70s Jazz Bass. Warm tone, virtually no string squeak, easy on the fingers and because they are similar diameter to the original strings - the nut is happy (the one on the guitar, not the one playing it).

I'm partial to Rotosounds, flats on my Precision and rounds on my VM Jazz. I like the sound on the VM, easily sounds like John Entwistle or Geddy Lee.

Just my preference, to each their own. It's all about what makes you happy and, getting there is most of the fun.

Merry Christmas!

I hate to admit it but, I don't know. I will say that the rounds don't last a long time, the falts are holding up real well, which they should.

It's all about preference anyhow, whatever makes us happy.

well maybe thats because flats sounds better when "deader" than fresh..

rounds well i had one where i never changed at all... but i'm always annoyed by the finger drag noise they produce..

Normally, on my Fender Jazz I like Dean Markley Blue Steels, this time with my Squier VMJ (just got it two days ago) I figured on trying to get a more "vintage" sound so, I thought I would try flatwounds. Unfortunately, all Sweetwater.com (where I got the bass) had was a couple of brands of flatwounds, so I got the cheapest they had, i.e. Fender's 9050 set. So far, so good, but I think I will get something else, like GHS flats. Any other flats y'all can recommend?

D'addario chromes in case you need the extra highs... and they have a distinct tone.

for a little vintage vibe, GHS flats and LaBellas are worth considering..

Chromes / Hi Beam Flats / Rotosound and Fenders have a bit of highs in them... well to my ears

TI Flats are a little bit middy

and

La Bella / GHS are thumpy
