Post subject: Frets need some help

I have a P bass and I am starting to feel the frets on the side of the neck. Starting to get sharp . Do I need to put it in a shop or is there something I can do . It's only 6 months old and is chineses made. Thanks Paul

That sounds like "fret sprout" which happens to many basses this time of the year in cold climates. The fingerboard dries out in the heated air indoors during winter and it shrinks, leaving the end of the frets sticking out a bit and feeling sharp. If you can't do the job yourself, a good tech will be able to file them down flush and round them over. Once it's done you shouldn't have to do it again next winter.

My Classic Vibe 50 P has the same problem now and I will be doing the work on it this weekend I hope. I've got another fairly new bass that also needs the same thing. It's a pretty easy job with the right files and a bit of very fine sandpaper.
