Any one have experience with the 50's classic vibe? I'm looking for a good starter bass, and am curious if anyone has any recommendations.

I played one for like 20 minutes at Guitar Center last week and I was pretty impressed. For such a modest price, that thing had some really nice tone with just the stock pickup!

Compared to other P-basses, this one had a little slimmer neck (though not as slim as a J of course) and it wasn't quite as "fat" sounding on account of the single pickup. Think of it as... "P-bass lite," hehe. Might not have a very diverse tonal range, but I thought it was pretty solid :)

I picked up the 50's P-Bass just to knock around the house and practice on. And take to some "less" desirable gigs. But you know what, I love this bass! I am really not a P-Bass guy (mainly play jazz basses), but this bass is fun to play and sounds and looks great! I already used it at some gigs and it kicked butt! As far as build quality, I can't say one bad thing about it. The finish is flawless, the neck pocket is super tight and even the fretwork is way better then any other bass I've tried in that price range.

Here is mine. Note, I did add the bell cover over the pickup. Gives me a better place to anchor thumb rather then using the pickup.

I'm definitely digging that '50s P-bass, I think i'm going to have to pull the trigger on it.

I really like this Squier 50's Precision bass. The only issue I have with the bass is the "White" neck and the gloss finish on the neck. I tinted the neck and used a Satin Nitro Lacquer to finish. I also put Vintage Reverse tuners and I made a thumbrest and matched the Lake Placid Blue to it...

I had to swap the knobs on mine - those tele ones look too small to me.

I got the 50s P and all I did was replace the pickup with a custom wound one from Pete Biltoft at Vintage Vibe Guitars. Nothing wrong with the stock pickup but I wanted to change the sound to something a bit more meaty in the bottom, but still like a single coil P. Sounds amazing now. I did a bit of set up work on it after replacing the strings with Thomastic flat wounds. It's a very nice bass. Great neck and the fret work is perfect. As good as the American stuff. I take it out to play gigs and it hasn't given me a bit of trouble. Sounds just like I wanted it to and in my opinion, beats the Sting bass I was thinking of getting. For $300 Canadian how could I lose?

I'm thinking of getting a 60s P to take over for my 78 Fender P which is getting a bit old and needs some work.

The Vibe Jazz bass is pretty sweet, too!

I can't really find anything wrong with any of these Vibe basses. I think they are great right our of the box.
