Hi,

I've got a Squier CV 60's J-bass, and I want to change the pickguard.
Would a Standard Fender J-bass Pickguard fit my Squier??

Thanks,
Ben

I do not believe so. I have 2 Fender P-basses and recently picked up a Squier P-bass. The extra Fender pickguards that I have would not fit on the Squier, without some serious modification.
I know it sounds cheesy, but I just spray painted the Squier white pickguard black. with some Krylon Fusion spray paint. Turn out pretty good, some sanding had to be done, and it was about a 3 day process. YMMV

The problem with my pickguard is that, when I take off the pointless thumb-rest, there's two big screwholes in it, and the screws are too long to go back in without screwing them right into the bass, which I don't rally want to do, and there would still b two randm screws in the middle of the pickguard.

Can you repray a Tortoise shell guard anyway?

Thanks

I didn't stop to think what pg came on the CV bass. Since you don't want the thumbrest, and you don't like the holes, either but a small piece of black tape on the underside of the pg so that it will "cover" the hole or buy a new pg. I would not paint over a tort pg, mine was white.
I put the wrong link previously.

Cool thanks, I think I will try and buy a new one. I haven't found anywhere in the UK where I could order one through without having to send a tracing or an actually pickguard, so I think I will just have to send in a tracing.

I'll be adding a Squire Jazz Bass (1977 reissue thing), and will be looking for a tortoise pickguard for it. Which pickguard do you want? Maybe I can find one here for you, then send it your way in exchange for the tortoise one.

Let me know.

I've went a few different ways. I've put a fender pickguard on a squire, a squire pickguard on a fender and even an aftermarket on a squire. The only problem I"ve had is the fender guard had a bit of a "bump" to it on the squire around the imput jack. That's just a convenient place to hold picks. It's just a matter of experimenting and I know some people realy hate the little bump or puting a screw hole in their $170 squire.

In my experience with the Squier Vintage modified series the squier control plate will not match the fender pickguard, it's change the Squier control plate into a fender control plate or file the fender pickguard.
the difference is that the Squier control plate is slightly more pointed compared to the rounder fender control plate. (im not sure if the 60's CV has the same case)

hey just for entertainment, check this video out! the customization of my Fretless Squier!!! includes installation of a pickguard! Enjoy!

Doin great my friend.
A friend of mine offered to spray my pickgaurd using auto motive prismatic paint more commonly known as "chameleon". That's the crazy paint that shifts colors depending on the light source and angle. I'll give it a shot...what the heck!
