Just a quick update: Some months ago I finished blinging out my VM Jazz:

I know the covers look a little crooked, that's an optical illusion because of the camera angle.

@ nicebassbro
Yep...I love the look of the white binding and pearl block inlays on maple on the Vin Mod 77.and the Strat knobs finish it of nicely. Played one @ Guitar Cener but the action sucked and the strings were old. Not Fender/Squire's fault at all. GC and Sam Ash and the like have really watered down the guitar buyers experience. I prefer the mom and pop shops. I remember buying a used Rick 4001 and getting it restrung, the action set,and a case when I purchased it.Same thing when I bought a new bass years later at another small store. I asked the bass guy at GC to throw in some strings and set the action for me on a purchase I made 2 years ago..he said "Sure. But we have to charge you $40 for the guitar tech guys fee. R U fricken serious? I said forget it. Went down to the Guitar Factory and they did it for $15.00. PLays like a dream.

Thats so weird! I recently had a friend who bought a fender deluxe jazz bass at guitar center. expensive bass, about 16 hundred dollars. they did the same thing..they told him that in order to set it up. its going to cost you 50 bucks! you would think if you are dropping almost 2 grand on an instrument they would be more than happy to put some new strings on and fix the action, and adjust the neck if its bowing..which at guitar center they usually are bowing. i try not to buy stuff from GC. unless im absolutely in a bind. ill probably end up ordering that bass from sweetwater.com. or going to a local music store to get it. where they actually care about their instruments.

this story kind of reminds me of my own experience with guitar center, and why i wont buy stuff from there. Probably like 6 or more years ago. I bought a fender standard jazz bass from GC. like a day later, the thing started shorting out..so brought it back. and i looked for another bass to buy...i looked through a bunch of basses in the price range i was looking for. every single bass i picked up..had some sort of problem with it. either there were scratches or dings in them...of the pots for the electronics were all loose from consumers massacring by trying them out..or the necks were warped beyond belief. I got my money back..and said so long GC. I went to a local music store, picked up one of those knock off music man basses. and i had it for years and years. i loved it..it sounded great. I ended up trading it in somewhere down the road. i guess the moral of this story is...GC is not a good place to purchase musical instruments

Yep..that's exactly the way I feel. I used to work at a small music store in Myrtle Beach. They also manufactured PA systems, midi trigger drums, and cases.Plus they were a recording studio as well.
Any stringed instrument that we sold usually included a case. If the strings were old (which was rare due to the fact that we kept up on that) we would replace them and do a light set-up. Any guitar on the floor was maintained. When we weren't busy I was either out in the shop making cases or midi drums,or in the store front cleaning and making sure our show room stock was clean and playable.
I don't know how many times I have picked up a bass at GC and immediately set it back down when I felt how bowed the neck was or how old and dead the strings were. That's like waking onto a car dealer lot and looking at brand new cars that have worn tires and in need of a serious car wash.

2004 P special black/chrome but modified to look cooler...that's it in the pic below. :P
Sustain sucks but it's my beater, goes with me in my bus to practice when I'm sitting and waiting for kids.

1999??? P bass but the serial makes no sense. It starts with PN 501068....research told me they never used PN for a prefix. I dunno. It's retired and holds an autographed pick guard my metal idols from Tarot signed for me. This bass was given to me by family member. Always keep it forever.

I just bought a Vintage Modified Jazz back in Feburary from Guitar Center. Wow what a bass, in my opinion I just couldn't justify paying a grand more for a US built Fender. The Duncan Designed P/U's just sing, plenty of power and the tone is increadable. I've owned Fender's, G&L's and Gibson's I would stack my Squier up against all of them!

I've heard so much good about that jazz bass, and it's a great looking bass as well. I'm tempted, but I'm broke. :P I can find one used though.

I've been playing for 17 years but I just got my first ever Squier bass about a month ago.
It's the Vintage Modified Precision TB, "The Mudbucker".

I've had two Les Paul and Jazz knock-offs, an Ibanez, an Epiphone and I currently have two other Fenders but this one is my first Squier bass.
